Libary versus library. And in the Midwest they say "Warsh" instead of wash and that.... oooohhhhhh

It's where the "R" in library goes when it feels dirty.

I make fun of my best friend for saying Ole, instead of oil.

Oh! Another southernism, I think! Folks = parents/family
I agree with that, however I say 'folks' all the time. I guess to me it more of a friendly way of addressing a group of people. It's an old timey thing from old cartoons & b&W comedies I suppose.

Hehehe I grew up saying "lie-berry" and then corrected myself when I was about in middle school. I really began the semi-conscious decision to speak standard American English then.

And instead of saying "roof" my dad pronounces it "ruff". Hehehe. That's the soutner/Appalachian side of my family.

My grandparents had a rotary phone until they up and left Virginia. 5 years ago.

I can see that. But if it doesn't have a qualifier around it, like "those over there", then I take it to mean family. So "my folks" generally is my parents.

madness.
WOW, I can't imagine what that would have been like.

The last year I was in school, the library had internet access. But at that point I had almost no computer experience and it was so slow (1993). Then I 'adventured' for a few years and got my first computer in 1998. Now it feels like I have been suing them forever, but I do have that pre-computer / pre-internet perspective.

I've gotten picked on for saying "rum" instead of "room"... Part of my family describes themselves as "real Vermonters" and honestly I think that they have their own dialect. My grandfather and a friend of his were talking, and I only caught one in six word, or so.

You use it to insult someone without actually sounding like you are. Southerners are known for their hospitality but they will: GO-SS-IP about YOU!

Reel to Reel is a different animal all together!!! Reel to Reel was / is great!

They were used in recording up until maybe 10 years ago, but for a small period of time they marketed them to consumers as high quality audio, and the ability to record. Remember how old stereos used to come with microphones?
