I have seen Eden admins go above and beyond their "job discription" many times. I found out when I tried to nominate a staff member that it wasn't possible. Do you think we should be able to nominate Eden staff for Contributor of the Month as well?

My point was that having admins/staff thrown into the mix just adds a whole layer of complication that is both unfair and unnecessary.
Think of this hypothetical:
A new contest pops up (it doesn't matter what for) and while scanning through the names of the entries, you see that JR, Stormy and the remainder of people you've likely never heard of are entered.
The mob mentality of any community in a situation like this is simply that they WANT to support the people they know the best. That's two people that the bulk of the community likes and have probably had dealings with here on EF against people whose names you've never seen before in your life. The simple psychology of it that that people naturally lend their help that they feel the most connection for.
Do I think it's fair that EF staff do a lot of really awesome work don't don't get to participate in fun things like that? Of course not...But the alternative appeals to me even less.

Maybe what we could suggest is a separate contest/thread for how a particular staff member went above and beyond their job description and helped you out. For every separate helpful occasion, the staff member gets a point and whoever has the most points at the end of the year gets Staff Member of the Year.

The staff are wonderful but I would see it as too much of a popularity contest if we could nominate them for contests. The only way I think this would be ok was if the staff had a separate contest.

Thank you, everyone. I think it's fantastic how the community wants to reward the staff, but the truth is our rewards come in the form of seeing the community work together and stand up for each other while maintaining the enthusiasm for reviewing and making Eden awesome. When there's a great day in the community and there's a lot of positive energy flowing, that is our reward.
We very much appreciate the kind words and support of the community, but would rather honor the thousands of community members who often deserve more recognition than they get on a regular basis.
(On a much lighter note, an admin's default status should be "awesome". There shouldn't be anything we do that's considered above and beyond, it should just always be that way.)

Here's the thing - I've admined on several forums, and it's a pretty lonely job. Yes, it's an admin's job to be nice to us, but I firmly believe they should at least be entitled to the same respect, camaraderie, and recognition that other members are given. Because even as an admin, they are still a member, and should have the same chance to enjoy the site as the rest of us even outside their work.

I do agree that many of the admins do a great job and put forth an admirable effort towards the site and community. This should be something taken into consideration and recognized of course. I do think they should be awarded, however I think it should be separate from the polls on community members. Of course the admins are part of the community, but they should have their own contest or commendations/awards so that it remains fair for the community as a whole. I do think everyone should still vote and be included though, just keep things straightforward so everyone is happy.
