We want your How-To's!

Contributor: Dawn (Lilac Distraction) Dawn (Lilac Distraction)
I'm sure a few of you have seen my How-To for upcycling all of those old shipping boxes around. After I did that, it got me to thinking . . .

It would be really great if we had these types of videos/workshops from all of you! Is there something your particularly talented in? Do you have a way of turning one thing into another? We want to see it! (Especially if it's somehow Eden related!)

What I'm looking for here is projects that are appropriate for people of all skill levels. We have a lot of members in the community who are still beginners when it comes to certain things. They shouldn't be left out of the fun! The best types of projects are those that beginners can do, and advanced crafters can take to a new level!

Each month we will have a different Medium of the Month that is voted on by our crafty folks. Not everyone has experience with every medium out there. I'd love it if you could tie in your How-To to the medium so that everyone can give it a try regardless of their skill level! You don't absolutely have to go along with the medium, but it helps.

For How-To videos, you should aim for around 10-15 minutes in length. We don't have to see you do the entire project, but make sure you go over every step and that it is easy to follow along with you. Before doing your video, make sure that you shoot me a message and give me an outline of what you'll be doing. I would prefer these as soon as possible so I know exactly who is doing what.

Depending on the level of interest and the number of video submissions I get for each month, we may have a rumble-type contest. Again, these are beginner projects that everyone can do. Stay tuned for more details on that.

Would this be something you were interested in doing?

Maybe at some point I could do a how-to video on how to do braided extensions in your hair? I know its not a craft, but its definitely creative?

The great thing about crafters is that they're normally always looking to learn! It may not be considered a typical "craft", but it is creative. Personally, this is something that I'd love to learn how to do. I know people are doing those trendy "hair feathers" these days. They also seem like a wonderful idea to do if you want to add a few different colored streaks in your hair without it being permanent. Once you come up with a good idea, send me a message! It sounds like something that's pretty fun!

Another note about how the "rumbles" might work.

Things that we could vote on are who had the most helpful/creative/inter esting video, not how advanced the project was. This makes it a great way for us to learn and share our skills with others. The How-To videos can also be tips and tricks for the Medium of the Month.

What I'm hoping to accomplish with these videos is for people to branch out. Not only can you learn from the videos, but you can learn a new project so you can do a video! Another great thing about beginner projects!

And, just to be fair, I will not be participating in the rumbles if we decide to have them

You could always take pictures if you still have a normal camera. Then you could take them and make a video with them, if you want. That would work, too.

Sounds like a great idea, actually. But I don't have a camera and, aside from sewing, I'm not particularly crafty. I suppose I could take pictures of mucking out a horse stall, but I don't think that would be helpful to most people.

I do hope that other people who are more talented than I create fun videos to watch. I loved the Tassel twirling video and the video on how to make tassels to twirl.

I think it's an awesome idea, but I'm not sure if I would be able to contribute anything. Would love to see what others can do, though!

That is a good idea. Ill have to try a test run see how it works. But Id have to figure out what to do a video on first.

Kind of scary to make a video

YES! I'm actually really pretty crafty at this type of thing. I'd LOVE to do that. I haven't ever videod or done tutorials so it may take some effort to get it on video good. But I could have some nice ideas for ya!

I'd love to do this. My camera is pretty cheap and crappy, but I think I will be able to get lots of natural light going on and do the best I can. Will it be frowned upon if we make something that is not EF related? Because I have a lot of ideas for things that are not related to (or made out of boxes from) EF.

I would love to be able to do this. My fiance makes floggers, whips, and we both make a million other things all day long. I would love to be able to do this.

Ugh, I asked for the video opening and never got it. Than I go caught up in this movie thing. I might just post a photo how to, of the photos I took.

I'd consider it, I use boxes to make things pretty often. ^_^
It's a pretty good idea anyway since so many people are into upcycling these days.

I'm thinking of making myself some toy bags soon because the toys in their original boxes are just taking up too much space for me.

I could take pictures of the steps making them. I think it would be an easy project - you would just need to be able to sew a straight line (by hand or machine) and follow directions.

neat idea --- but too many consumers & too few producers..

So now that I have started working with at risk youth with little to no funding I realized this could be a resource. I won`t have time to watch the meduim of the month workshops, if they start up again will they be posted anywhere?

I would be willing to do one on making savings banks out of margerine tubs or small paper boxes- like match boxes.
