What meals from your childhood do you define as comfort foods? What about now that you're an adult? Which old standbys do you make even now?

I grew up in the South, so for me, comfort food is soul food. Greens, butterbeans (just made a huge pot of them), and pecan pie stand out in my mind as the taste of home.

My all time favorite go-to comfort food is country fried steak with peppered milk gravy, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas with a big fluffy cathead biscuit.

I've never had homemade mac n cheese but I'm dying to learn how to make it. Just never think about it when I'm at the store.

Sausage gravy biscuits, made that is because my mom was not the greatest cook. So we had Bob Evans gravy and some biscuits on weekends.

Also pot roast, that is because that is what my mother in law makes. She makes a mean roast!

For me, a glass of warm milk is about as comforting as it gets.

Then, sometimes I really need an endorphin kick, and then there's nothing like some habanero salsa on tortilla chips.

... but that's not really what you were asking! My mom makes a mean red beans and rice (southern roots) and that's about as homey-feeling as anything I can dream up. Yummm.

My childhood comfort foods were potato soup, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Now I'd add grilled cheese sandwiches and noodles with butter, salt and garlic to that list.

Basically anything loaded with carbs.

Mac and cheese. I'm a sucker for some hardcore mac and cheese.

In the colder weather I can't get enough tomato soup&grilled cheese, and my mother's cooking always brings back fond memories...especially the homemade chicken nuggets she always called 'mommy fried chicken' and her peanut butter cookies. =^.^=
