My favorite meal I've ever eaten might very well be...pickled octopus. No, I'm not kidding. The last time I was at a Greek restaurant in Tarpon Springs, FL (which has an enormous Greek community), I ordered it and I've been craving it ever since. It's a pity that I haven't been able to find it for sale again. I suppose I could make my own, but I haven't yet.

My favorite meal; Bracciolli (rolled, stuffed flank steak) in red gravy (Italian tomato sauce) with thick, long pasta and garlic bread.

Boy, favorite meal is a tough one since I like to try so many things. One of my current favorites for cold nights is braising short ribs in red wine with herbs and vegetables. After slowly cooking in the oven for several hours, the meat just falls off the bone. Spoon some of the reduced sauce over homemade mashed potatoes and it's homey goodness.

Hopefully I can make this meeting, but I can't promise anything. I absolutely love to cook and especially experiment with new dishes. One of my talents is actually using leftovers to create new meals because I really don't like to eat leftovers.

Oh, just thought of another dish that is actually a favorite of my wife. I make a mean triple layer chocolate cheesecake that has chocolate, mocha, and heath bar layers. It's a lot of work, but worth it for the reward I get from the wife.

Hmm, I'd have to say my favorite meal right now is homemade stuffed chicken breasts with seasoned asparagus and broccoli cheese bake.

My favorite dish that's a hard one. Let's go with my favorite breakfast dish. Fried eggs with ripe plantain yumm.

My favorite meal I make is my take on the classic ceviche. I marinate some fresh fish for a day in lemon and lime juice to "cook" it, and then mix it with kale, jackfruit, mango, red pepper, scallions, red onion, cilantro, and blackeyed peas. Finally I drizzle a mixture on lime juice and blood orange juice over the top of it to serve. The kids won't touch it, but my wife and I love it. It's especially nice to eat on the deck on a summer evening while watching the boats on the Columbia River.

I've done each, although I'll continue adding my favorites. I'd like to hear what your favorites are too, Alys, even if you can't enter your own contest.

I serve ripe plantain fried in butter all the time with a spiced yogurt dip. I've never had it with eggs, but I can't imagine a way that could be bad.

Haha, okay well... my favorite meal to order is at this little sushi restaurant in California that I miss dearly. It started off with some of the best tempura shrimp on earth, then a mixed green salad with a sesame dressing, then a spicy tuna roll, and it all finished off with some green tea ice cream. I miss having good sushi.

Hey guys and dolls,
Wish I could make it to this, but I will be at work making chocolate during that time.
I do have a cooking blog, though, that some of you may find interesting. I run it with my sister who is the best cook that I know. We live on different coasts so we keep the blog as a way to have a project together. Here's the link
If you're interested, you can even subscribe and get yummy recipes delivered to your email box.
Have fun on Thursday!

Tonight I'm making one of my favorite meals: Caribbean salad. I dice up mangoes, sweet red pepper, and red onion and add it to corn, black beans, cilantro, and garlic. I then douse that with a mixture of vegetable stock, salt, pepper, hot sauce, cumin, and key lime juice. We usually eat it as a salad, but I've added it to the top of grilled fish as well, sometimes even mixing it with a papaya-based BBQ sauce.

My favorite meal to make when I'm feeling under the weather, or a bit homesick, is avgolemono soup. It is a Greek chicken soup made with chicken broth, rice, lemon juice and thickened with tempered egg. The translation of avgolemono is egg lemon, so essentially it's a egg lemon soup! I usually add the zest of the lemon and sometimes I have leftover chicken which finds its way into the soup as well.

Reminds me of one of my favorite comfort dishes. So easy and inexpensive. My grandmother (Cuban) called Arroz con Puta. (roughly translated: rice with bitch/slut/woman) It's basically rice topped with fried eggs. So simple and delicious.

(We eat it a lot when times are tough around here too)

I've been trying to think of other favorite meals, but I keep drawing blanks! I suppose I'll say pizza. I love the variety, from cheap takeout to homemade to gourmet.

There's nothing wrong with takeout pizza! My favorite is a white pizza with extra mozzarella, bacon, onion and black olives. It's what my sister and I agreed on as kids, and it's an absolute classic in my family.

I love Pad Thai! 3 out of 5 on the spiciness. Hot enough to make me sweat but not so hot I can't taste it!

Oooh! My favorite meal is grilled chicken seasoned with paprika, ginger, and garlic, served with paprika and rosemary wedges sprinkled with olive oil and baked with onions. Goes VERY well with a traditional Greek salad. Or something with spinach and a raspberry vinaigrette.

One of my favorite take out foods is a Thai dish called Lard Nar. It's wide rice noodles, with your choice of meat or tofu (the tofu variety is wonderful) egg, broccoli, pea pods, Chinese cabbage, baby corn, (which I pick out or tell them not to put in, in the first place) Pak Choy, and some kind of soy based gravy. MMMM

That and pot stickers and spring rolls, and a some vegetable fried rice and I'm in heaven. You have to eat this with chop sticks. It tastes better. I get mine with a "hotness rating" of 1. Really bland.

My Man likes a dish called.....Pad Prik. I think it's similar to Lard Nar, but with rice and HOT HOT HOT HOT, plus bell peppers. He gets his with either beef or duck. Hotness rating of 3. (He ordered a 4 once and the guy taking my order told me "not good idea" He couldn't eat it, it was so hot. He thinks he so tough.) I think he orders it just so he can say it. He's such a kid.
