Recipes You Thought Were Ruined

We've all been there, you get a craving for a certain dish and scan the cabinets, fridge and pantry for ingredients and you think you have everything it takes to make your favorite recipe. But, you don't. You're missing that one *vital* ingredient. As it turns out you're almost done making the recipe and you have something you think might work instead, so you throw caution to the wind and go for it.

What was that recipe? What were you missing? How did it turn out and do you make the dish with the substitute now?

We wanted enchiladas over the weekend and I completely spaced on adding the tomato sauce to the list. So, instead of a wet meat mixture with sauce, we had dry burritos that tasted like enchiladas and it was almost better than the original.

I always doctor the frozen pizzas we get. And you know those meal in a bag things with the frozen veggies and meat? I take out the carrots one by one and substitute a cup of frozen peas. It's soo much better.

Probably the most fly-by-the-seat-of-my- pants recipe came from being up at the cabin with my partner's family. They needed barbeque sauce for grilling, and had absolutely nothing in the kitchen that remotely resembled the things needed to make it. I ended up cobbling together a mix of worchestshire sauce, raspberry jam, tomato paste, and half the spice cabinet seeking that blend of umami and sharp heat.

It ended up working out pretty well, surprisingly.

Wow, that is pretty inventive and actually sounds quite tasty. Though, I admit you had me at raspberry.

Well, this one wasn't a success---but my aunt once ran out of apples before filling up her apple pie. So she substituted creamed corn!

Oh that is the most digusting thing I've ever heard in my life. Ewwwwwww! I hear plums and apples go well together, though.
