When I was in the army we would take our boots to the shower and wet them and wear all day!!

LOL If water really damaged leather we wouldn't use it for saddles...my horse loved to lay down in the creek with me on her back so yeah water is ok. It's the molding and mildewing that's the real issue...

It is soft leather, not suede. I haven't used it in years due to the stain and it was one of those prized really expensive ones!

My parents bought me a pair of cowboy boots when I was about 5. They hurt my feet. Not knowing any better I went and played in the mud puddle with them. They were furious with me until they realized they didn't hurt my feet anymore. I loved them after that and wore them constantly.

My dad always said to have a bath in your cowboy boots and they'll fit you forever!

If all else fails, take some paint thinner and a few rags and "Strip" the finish off the leather. That will pretty much get rid of all the stains. You can then use a polish. Cedar Shoe Tree sells colored cream polish, use that to add a smooth layer of color and new finish to it.
