Eden Gives Back: Adopt a family 2011!

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
A few of you who were at the most recent Community Planning Meeting helped to plan about this already and already know about it, but it's time to unveil it to the rest of the community! Those of you who were here last year may remember that we did a community outreach program to help those in need during the holidays, and we're doing it again this year, only with a few minor tweaks.

How this is going to work this year:

•Anyone interested in volunteering to be one of the Community Reps should find an organization in their area. Make sure you can meet their requirements and take a look at all of the details (such as committing to the list they might ask for, the delivery terms they ask for etc) – send the details to me to look over (Sam @ edenfantasys .com).
Some tips: When looking for an agency, try Googling “Adopt a family” and the name of your town or city. Also: church groups, neighborhood organizations, college groups, and so on, are all ok - whatever is available in your area - we don't care about the politics of it, as long a family in need is getting help!

•The first 2 people who volunteer to be Community Reps for Thanksgiving and the first 3 for Christmas, who have all the info, and can absolutely do the legwork / shopping, are in! And we will coordinate with them via email to get the ball rolling. Then once we’re 100% sure it’s a go, we’ll announce on the forum.

The sooner we can get people involved the better. If you think you can be a Community Rep for Thanksgiving, email me ASAP. If you want to be a Rep for Christmas, well go ahead and get all that information to me as soon as you can as well.

The donations are working slightly differently than they did last year. This year instead of running a points drive for each family, we're running one for each season. There will be one drive for Thanksgiving and a separate one for Christmas. All of the points collected during the Thanksgiving drive be split evenly and given to the Thanksgiving Reps to provide meals. Same with the Christmas families; all of the points collected during the Christmas drive will be split evenly among the families.

We will be taking donations for the Thanksgiving families from November 4, 2011 to Tuesday, November 15, 2011. This will give us time to make sure that our Reps can get their money and get their shopping in. Donations for the Christmas families will go from Monday, November 28, 2011 to Tuesday, December 13, 2011 to make sure we can get our Christmas families shopped for as well. Donations can be from points you've earned around the site; gift cards you've earned from the Rumble/Roundup, writing for the Cafe, etc.; or can be a gift card you've physically purchased. What you need to do is email me the code to Sam @ edenfantasys.com along with the amount and which season you're donating towards.

Let's make this a holiday season a few lucky families will never forget!!

***********

An update for you! Our Thanksgiving donations brought in an awesome $428.64!!! We have two wonderful people helping to provide meals for people for Thanksgiving this year; Kayla and Rarity.

this has gotten me so excited i've extended the idea to my entire family. instead of gifts at christmas this year, i suggested we adopt a couple families, send gifts to them, then at christmas reveal to eachother photos of what we sent and info about each family.

it makes christmas less about gifts for eachother and more about giving to our neighbors, those who really need it. and then our get together is not about receiving, but about just being together. i hope they go for it.

Awesome, so glad to be doing this again. Might have to plow the fields a bit more just to send a bigger donation.

Sam, lets say you've earned a $25 giftcard for a video or something. If you wanted to donate, you'd have to donate the entire card balance correct? Or can you split it up, say keep $15 and donate $10?

Yes, you'd have to donate the entire balance. You can send in a card made from points for the $10 if you didn't want to donate the whole $25. Or you could make an extra video to cover having sent in the first $25.

Don't forget, there's a week left to donate and let me know if you want to sponsor a family for Thanksgiving or Christmas!!!

The only way to send a partial gift card (that is not made with points) is to spend what you are going to spend off the gift card first, then send in the number with the balance.
