Is there anyway I can send baked goods? I'm a fairly good baker (people request my stuff for parties and holidays all the time) and I'd love to send some cookies or something to the troops?

That's a really nice thought, but they would probably be spoiled by the time they arrived. However, if you wanted to organize a bake sale in your area to raise money to donate to the USO that would be a wonderful idea! I will also be giving information on how to organize USO events and how to create care packages. Stay tuned!!

I know this doesn't have to do with the Eden community, but it's another way for individual members to support our troops in another way as well. I belong to a group called books for soldiers and what it is once you go through a process to become a helper you can donate any books, dvds, video games, magazines etc. that you have lying around your house collecting dust that you have no where else to give them. I really like the program and it gives the troops something to do in their downtime. Just go to booksforsoldiers.com and can read more about it. They have rules about no pornography, but fiction/non-fiction, college textbooks that we no longer need or want and cant sell, self help, biographies, etc.

Oh, too bad. I know baked goods used to be shipped overseas during Viet Nam, Korea and WWII. There are certain types of cookies especially made for long shipping times, oatmeal with dried fruit and things like that.

As for a bake sale; I'm not the greatest at organizing things, and our area has some bizarre restrictions regarding selling home baked goods. Even my Mother's Support Group doesn't do bake sales anymore.

Considering the conditions of perceived hostility towards American occupation of foreign countries, they recently disallowed these items to be sent.

And I'm not surprised that there is a tighter restriction on local bake sales what with peanut allergies and all of that kind of stuff these days. It's a shame because they used to be a really great way to raise funds.

Here's the link to items you can donate and how to do so: link

Click on the "Account" link in the top left hand corner, then click on the "EdenPoints Program" link in the list of services. This will open the EdenPoints dashboard. You'll see a link next to the amount of points you currently have, click on that and convert the points into a giftcard. Once that's complete, go back to the list of services and click on the "Gift Card" link. That will give you the number that you will then send to sam@edenfantasys.com Please include the value along with the gift card number and your EdenFantasys screen name.

If you have any problems, please don't hesitate to send me a message and I'll be happy to help!

Thank you for your participation!!

Stormy,
Can you check with Sam, and see if she received my information. I sent it a couple of days ago, and I just want to make sure it got there. If not, I will resend it.

Thanks

A very generous person has just informed me that they will match your donations up to $250. So we can guarantee at least $500 for this if everybody can help us reach $250, and right now we're about $100 away!!!

This is awesome! But I have one REAL concern! A fam member of mine is in the military and will be touring in Iraq very soon again and to be honest, he's not going to be happy if he happened to be given a dirty magazine or even one that has vulgar images in it. Not that he wouldn't be grateful for anything and he truly would, but it made me think of a question.... is there any way to request a certain type of thing NOT be sent to a specific area? Just wondering as he'd really be happy not to have to worry about recieving anything out of the ordinary. I'm not sure what kind of mags we're talking here, but I've already seen people requesting to send pornos and toys?? Would some of the men who choose not to have those types of things sent be able to kindly turn it down and not have to worry about something like a dirty mag being wasted on someone who doesn't want to see it?

All I'm saying is just because most people are all excited to send strange men dirty mags, some wouldn't find them useful and wouldn't exactly appreciate it. I mean some people are not into that and I understand that fully. I personally don't find it appropriate to send anything like the dirty mags out unless it's to someoen who's already said yes to it. Some men do not want that type of thing. In fact, the member of my family who's in the military said he would find it offensive to have even the swim suit mags sent to him... If there's away to stop it being sent to specific people he would greatly appreciate it

Sounds strange, but it was something he said he would not want to have to deal with recieving.

Anyways, the points sound awesome though! Are all the points we donate going to be converted to cash and the full amount we donate go to them? Just wondering about that. I wish there was a way we could earn even more or do some sort of thing to be able to send more

Reader's digest sounds like a good one to send! Why no books though? My Bro in law says "can you ask for food instead of mags?" Lol
