We just filled up the back of our van with our donations. I forget how much we ended up donating, but it was over $500 worth. I'm just glad to be able to move around in the basement again.
Oh man, I'd love to have seen pictures from that!

I know how you feel, I have 3 teens and a 7 yr old. We can barely keep thenm dressed. They grow so quick and I have sooo many things that they've outgrown.

I'll talk to some people and see what I can do. Could probably generate a reasonable donation.

They are still on my wife's camera. I'll post them another day.

Is there going to be some organized donations drive outside this thread? (or was I just in your head again?)

I'd like to talk to you all about clothing and canned food donations, namely, who here would be up for passing on some things that you don't use anymore and could use a new home?
Oh, man, I'm sure I can find a TON of stuff as I clean out my closets when I move or in anticipation of that. I'm in!

So what I'm thinking would involve a little bit of work on your part.

First, you'd have to locate someplace in your community that takes clothing or food donations. Then you'd have to go through your own things and create your donation pile, and take a few pictures of it. Then bring it to your donation center of choice, and try to take some pictures of you donating your goods in some way (if you can of course). Then come back here and share the pictures.

Does that sound like something you can do?

Since we're all so spread out, the organization is really up to everybody individually. The only real criteria being that you have it done by the next meeting, otherwise it's up to you guys to find the place to donate to, and go from there.

Clearly something I can do. Is this going to be a one-time thing or an ongoing activity?

Thank you! It's one of the things I'm proudest of. Something I simply don't have the capabilities or resources to do in real life and something I was shocked at the success of. It was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Really reaffirmed my faith in humanity.

I see no reason why this couldn't be an ongoing thing really.

Maybe we could have a separate thread here for sharing the pictures from donation?

I guess my question was whether there will be a drive that will be announced and word spread on the Eden Clubs and Events blog or whether it will just be those of us on this thread.

Community service things always make me feel good and it also makes me look at my life and realise the things that I have to be thankful for.

But seriously though, as soon as you get a chance to do this is when you could/should do it.

Most definitely. And it was originally conceived as (personally, not publicly, it was something I kept to myself & didn't publicize at all in terms of the event), a way to pay tribute to a family member who'd recently committed suicide. All the funds went to the NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness). I got to work directly with the national CEO & they offered me an unpaid internship after the first one but I had to turn it down for personal reasons, unfortunately.

I use Flickr, but you can use Photobucket or any other upload service.

Upload them to the photo hosting site of your choice (Photobucket, Flickr, Imageshack, etc.), then link to the photo using the appropriate coding. If you need more help than that, just let me know and I can take you through step by step.

It will definitely be announced outside of this thread as well. I don't have all the specifics yet, but it will definitely get some outside exposure.

And anybody who wants to help spread the word should do it!

post em on flickr or somewhere else that has picture hosting (even image shack, where you don't need an account nor do they need to stay there permanently), get the url for the picture, then follow the instructions in the "Links & Formatting" info icon at the right hand side of your post window, right beside the smileys.

Its awesome that you were able to do that. It probably helped you coming to terms to some extent too. I work with my local American Legion raising money for kids and soldiers and it always makes me feel like Ive gotten much more than Ive given.
