Vaccinium has a great answer for that.

There will be a separate thread for pictures, and if you're having trouble getting them to post, you can always ask any of us for help and we'll help you out

Maybe we could have a separate thread here for sharing the pictures from donation?
I think a separate thread might be good and might generate more attention, etc. who doesn't like looking at pics? some ppl might not want to read the minutes from the last meeting though, so to speak. or any text at all. then they enter the thread and you grab em with the pics. just mho, i could be waaay off-base.

For anybody who isn't sure where the best place to go to donate clothing items, Google can be a tremendous resource. If you search "clothing donation" with your town/zip code, you can find a list of places that either take donations directly, or have donation boxes that you can drop off clothing/shoes/accesso ries to. If you're looking to have a tax deduction, I'm not 100% sure on the specifics of that, but you won't get a receipt from a donation box, so if you need one, make sure you seek out an actual donation center.

And don't forget that plenty of donation centers take plenty of things other than clothing. Check out what the centers in your area are in need of, you might just be able to help there too!

A separate thread for sharing donation pictures it is then!

Most definitely, tough between the first year and the 2nd, I had two close friends commit suicide as well, so for awhile I felt like it was a pointless exercise in futility, but once I got started on the 2nd one (it's quite a to-do and takes months of planning/organization/ etc), that all changed. I felt reinvigorated again and, again, surprised by the amazing ability of others to give and to love and to care.

Any reputable donation center will give you a receipt with a number value for tax purposes.

I think it was more for if you didn't donate directly to a center, but instead brought your donations to a box, which is much more convenient if you aren't free to make donations while the donation center is open

Itemizing also helps if the IRS ever comes calling.

Thats no lie...we got audited 3 years ago and I gave the guy shoeboxes full of reciepts. He did NOT look pleased that he had to go thru them but ehhh. I had receipts for everything I claimed lol!

We have two in town. a St Vincent and a Goodwill. St Vincent does way more around here than Goodwill. Might be worth looking into the donation site you are looking at. Some do way more for the community than others.

This is very very true. I'm absolutely horrible at that stuff, and will likely be very screwed if I ever get audited.

If they choose to audit you, then they need to be prepared to sort through your receipts. We are very anal retentive about getting receipts for everything. And we store our receipts for at least three years. And we take pictures of things we donate.

Lol, he is a truck driver so everything from fuel to clothes to food and truck supplies get claimed as well as house and school etc. I doubt they will be back soon.

As of right now, nothing big, just this donation drive.

That means that we are more than willing to listen to any suggestions anybody might have. If you (anybody) can come up with any ideas and have things to back it up, we're interested
