Run Taco Run wk4

week 4 has entirely sucked training wise.
I haven't really had an energy to run hard or push myself, if you'll excuse the over share, my period showing up with a might vengeance is the main cause of this. However, as of Thursday afternoon i've unofficially met my fundraising goal! Gary tells me the community donations are up to $420 and some change, add that the the $449 I've raised and the checks I know a few family members mailed in, I've hit the $1k minimum donation goal! This is so awesome and so overwhelmingly cool that It's given me a second wind as it were.

Now I'm not just running to help veterans get the much needed health care they deserve and are often unable to afford, now I'm running to do you all proud. I'm running to honor my late Grandfather's memory, who spoke of his time in the Navy during WWII as the most honorable thing he'd ever done. My grandfather gave up his life long dream of playing center field for the red sox(he was drafted to the team just prior to the war) to enlist not just to protect this country, but to help save the lives of all the innocent people who were caught up in that terrible war. He raised his children to view violence as an absolute last ditch effort, but to never hesitate to protect what you love when it's threatened. So I'm running for him, and I'm running for the members of this community who support me, and especially for those who have served.

thank you all again, thank you so so much!

Glad you/we have hit the minimum! But you know, we are not done yet, right?

Thanks again for your time and effort for such a worthy cause. I know you will do great.

I want to raise as much as possible! $1k is the minimum donation to participate in the race, now that thats out of the way i can focus on training for the run and seeing how much I can raise to help these veterans!

Thank you so very, very much for doing this.

My dad served in WWII (he is old enough to be my grandfather). He currently has dementia on top of another terminal illness. We were beyond sad and devastated to have to put him in a nursing home to make sure he could receive the round-the-clock care he needed. We tried for several years as he deteriorated to provide everything he needed at home, including getting hospice care to help.

Anyway, most of the men (and one woman) at the nursing home who eat dinner at the same time he does are WWII vets. They wear caps stating which branch of the military they served in, along with which division they were in. There are also younger men in the nursing home who suffered permanently debilitating injuries (there just happen to be no younger women in the home where he is). It absolutely breaks my heart. I have so much respect and gratitude for their service and tremendous sacrifices. Our vets are truly deserving of respect, love, care, and gratitude---heaping loads of respect, love, care, and gratitude . . .
