A great man, and I believe he has a wilderness area named after him, but he wasn't much of a photographer. Darned good guess, tho.

I'm going to have to check this guy out. My mom lived in San Fran for years so I'm sure I would like him.

OK, we're about done with the meeting. The last thing I wanted to talk about was the critiquing.

The final thing I have for tonight is that I wanted to let all of you know what your theme will be for this month’s photos that are to be submitted for critiquing. That theme is “red.” I know it’s kind of bland, but I’ll choose things in the months ahead to shake up your photographic tendencies once everyone is on level footing with their photographic knowledge. Considering many of the articles this month have been focused on getting a proper exposure, make sure you spend time thinking about what needs to be done to get a good exposure. If you have the option on your camera, try shooting in either aperture-priority or shutter speed-priority – or better yet, go full manual. So, photograph whatever you want that screams “red” and post your best 1-3 photos to the Tumbler site. Photos of an adult nature are absolutely welcome, but by no means required. If you don’t want to submit any photos for critiquing, that’s perfectly fine too. I’ll post more about the entire critiquing topic in a blog post following this meeting so that everyone knows what to expect.

He's a naturalist, not a photographer. But I forgot in the excitement of the moment

Anything specific about the critiquing you want to know (understanding I'll get into it in greater detail in an article I post in a day or two)?

Sorry! You have a built in excuse, though, considering the difference in time zones.

Is it okay to put up a photo that was taken previously, or are you just looking for new ones?

You've got a month, and it can me anything that suggests red to you. Heck, it could even be B&W or sepia [growwwlll] if it suggests red.

If you worked hard on your exposure, then a previous photo would be acceptable. Remember, though, we're all trying to grow as photographers, so a new photo would allow you to do that more so than an old one. Also, more than one (up to three) would be great.

I'm quite embarrassed I didn't think of Ansel Adams first. One of my Mom's friends met him and has several originals of his photos.
