What's the best way to get pictures of sky...

when you live in a suburb with no directly obvious means to not have tone of wires and stuff in the way? Is there really none, but to go out really far? I know parks are one option, but there are none really big enough to make it too worth it very close.

...Maybe I could get permission to use some apartment's rooftops.

You have to drive around to find the ideal spot if you're really into photography. Are there any "vista points" or "scenic lookouts" off the highway/freeway close to where you live? Do you have any parks that are located on the hills? Those are locations where you can get good sky view pictures.

You can also go to Flickr and locate photography groups from your area - those photographers usually list "Tags" telling viewers the locations where they took their pictures - then you'll know where to go.
