So how many of you are writers?

are actually writers in the sense that you plan on actually having full length books published one day? If you are, does the nature of being on this site reflect what people could expect outside of it in your writing? As in focusing on the sexual nature of life? OR at least containing it a great deal?

I write, but to be honest, you wouldn't even be able to recognize it from how I'm known on places like this. I could call it a dissasociation, but it seems odd to. Hard to describe. Just like certain things are always in certain parts of my mind, but not other places.

I hope to publish books one day. I had ones that I was working on, but life got in the way and I was never quite able to finish. When both of my kids are off in school, I may have more time.

What I write here doesn't look like what I write outside of here. When I write in general, there is lots of exposition and character development. Here, there is only so much room, so whatever I write will merely be an abbreviated version of what I would normally compose. I find that without the background, though, the story loses some of its heart.

I have been writing since I could really get my thoughts onto paper. I am not published and I am not sure if I ever will be. I mostly write to get things out from running around in my head. Far to many characters in there.

I like to consider myself a writer. I have a few long manuscripts sitting around my hard drive, but nothing published yet.

Thinking about that...if you want to include longer works you could always post your work on a blog of your own and then post a link to the blog. Or do chapters as separate posts...

I would LOVE to some day have a book published but I get to a certain point of my books and get stuck.

So do I! There's nothing to be ashamed about, as long as you enjoy it!

Is it difficult or expensive to self publish? how do you go about it? Googling it gets so much info it is hard to sort.

I wonder, of those who say they write or have things sitting on hard drives, how many of you have looked into local writing groups on meetup or yahoo groups? If not, why not? They can be phenomenally helpful in getting feedback from live readers and the ability to decide what to do with that feedback before it's published.
As to self-publishing, I haven't done so myself, but have been told that Amazon has an excellent walk-through tutorial making it simple and if you sign up for their program where you can't share your work with another site for the first ninety days, they help to advertise your work during that time. I hear positive things from those who have done it.

I've written a full length book but it is still sitting unpublished. Since then I have started on two more, but I'm starting to wonder if the only person who will ever read my books is me.
