While the story "Orchid" is still on my mind, I want to share what the author Jacqueline Applebee told me about how she came to write it.


I had a crush. It shouldn’t have been the end of the world, but I found myself in a whirl; simultaneously aroused and confused. How could this be happening to me? I wasn’t thirteen, for goodness sake. But there it was: I had a crush. And what’s worse, it was on a totally vanilla man. As a bisexual, poly, kinky woman, I had no idea what to do. At first I quizzed the object of my affection on what he actually did in bed. Such intimate questioning did not endear me to my new friend. It seemed that talking about sex in detail was a kinky thing too… ? ?My other friends and lovers convinced me that my crush would disappear with time, but it didn’t. I couldn’t get my fantasy man out of my head. He was cultured, softly-spoken and absolutely gorgeous. It was then that I realised that it was his vanilla nature that I found attractive. I’d somehow managed to ?generate a kinky fetish for a vanilla man! My head now swam with naughty ideas of me getting him back to my bedroom. I’d strip, and then proceed to instruct him on all the things that made me wet. I started making notes about my fantasy, and before I knew it, I had a half-formed story on my hands. ? ?“Orchid” was an unexpected delight for me to write. I enjoyed the opportunity to laugh at my silly plans for the vanilla gentleman. I also liked creating a character who was innocent and naïve; one I could slowly turn to the dark side.
