Hi guys! I'm seriously late - dealing with dog damage :-(

I haven't gotten very far in the Best Lesbian Erotica yet, but I've almost finished Passion, and this has been a really good book. I've really liked a lot of the stories in this one!

As one of those "almost desesperately single women who might need to be reminded that romance still exists" you may have just sold me on the book

It's nice to read when the characters are well-crafted.

Hi all!

One difference in BLR (and Best Lesbian Erotica as well) from year to year may be that they both are willing to include reprints from anthologies published the previous year, and some years there are more or fewer anthologies with applicable themes.

What do you readers think about reprints in "Best of" anthologies? On the one hand, it's hard to say something is among the best of its year if you're ruling out anything already published in that year, while on the other hand those who read widely in the genre would rather not see stories they've already read.

Opinions?

I don't mind reprints, as long as they don't make up much of the book. That way, even if I've read 3 or 4, the rest are still new.

I'd rather not have stories I've already read, even if it does limit the stories available to the compiling editor. I like reading new things, if I want to reread something I will.

I don't get to read all that much, so I actually really appreciate it. I like having the opportunity to be exposed to something I might otherwise have missed and truly falling in love with it.

We do too. The first couple of anthologies we ever read together seemed like they were all about white 20-something college kids with perfect bodies. There's nothing wrong with them, but it's nice to see books that represent people of all colors/sizes/ages/etc.

I'm sure Oprah could have 11 Elevens if she wanted... one in every room? Or one in every house? Keep one in the car? lol

I can definitely see this being a downside, especially if you are paying for the books.

Oh! I had post #100..but I can't give myself a gift card, so I'll have to give it to Girl with Fire for #101 instead.

For being single for two years, I'm definitely at that stage as well and some stories were heartwarming, actually one of them had me teary. Rare are stories or books that can manage that. (It was Autumn Suite.)

I completely agree-- and I think we're seeing more of a range of people represented in erotica. As an editor, I'm very much aware of characterization and appreciate an author's skill in creating complex, multi-dimensional characters who represent a wide range of the population.

We always feel cheated when we run across a story that we've already read in a regular anthology in another regular one, but for the annual "Best Of" editions it sort of makes sense.

If either of the two of you are interested in women as well as men, or even if you aren't you REALLY need to read BLR because the stories will seriously get under your skin. (In the best possible way)

I agree with what a couple others have said, so long as the book isn't alllll previously published stories, I can live with that. Especially if I happen to have not read the book they were originally published in.

I don't mind reprints from several sources in the current or previous years in a "Best of" type anthology. I think the larger the pool you can choose from, the better quality group of stories you'd end up with. Also, perhaps it would be less likely that regular readers of a particular genre would run into many stories they'd already read.

I really liked "Dear in the Headlights" - that was quite a hot story.
Another one I enjoyed was "Five Senses" - that might be my favorite.

Oh, I *loved* Autumn Suite by Suzanne Slate. I enjoyed the emotional component of the relationship.

Yes we're definitely see more of that now, as well as the authors who craft characters in a way that leaves a lot to the imagination. That gives the reader the freedom to fill in the blanks which can be pretty exciting. Erotica as a genre seems to be getting better overall.
