Has reality ever ruined a hot story for you?

I read a story today that was quite hot, however as I reached the climax (no pun intended) a thought intruded: is she insane? An absolute stranger she's never laid eyes on and no condom! Does she want an STD?

Now obviously this is a story. The protagonist will have her fun, get-off, and continue post-coitally into the sunset without a worry in the world. But as the reader, I feel like the story was ruined. I'm not opposed to a willing suspension of disbelief, but I felt like this was the erotica equivalent of Sharktopuss (IMDB link).

Has anyone else felt this way about a piece of erotica? less

This got me really hard in One Hot Slut, in the Playing With Fire anthology. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I was like someone watching a horror movie, whisper-shouting "Don't open that door!"---I was so sorry for the characters.

Maybe other people found that to be an empowering story? But it was just so obvious to me that the situation could have been happily arranged in a different way. less
