Hi everyone! Are you a liquor connoisseur? Do you like to experiment in the kitchen? Do you like fruit? Well, I've got the workshop for you. On March 21st, I'm going to be right here in this very thread teaching you how to turn this
into this!
and
I'll be giving you step by step instructions from bottle to table on how to create your own vodka infusions so you, too, can have beautiful and delicious concoctions of your own to drink, use as a table centerpiece or give away as a unique, inexpensive, and easy to make gift.
Join me here Monday, March 21st at 8PM (EST) to hang out, chat, and learn a thing or two about infusing liquor.
In a few moments I'm going to post an ingredient list that includes a link to the bottles on Amazon. They are also sold at The Container Store if you have one near you.
Ooooh, nice! Vodka is yummy but I just don't drink anymore. lol
I don't drink much, but I give these out as gifts during the holiday season; people always really enjoy it because they taste good and look even better
To infuse your own vodka, you're going to need the following list of ingredients:
-Room Temperature Vodka (I typically do 3-5 infusions with 1 litre of vodka, but you can purchase smaller bottles if you're not going to use the excess. You should have enough vodka to do fill whatever canister you're using 3/4 full.)
-A resealable, airtight container. Glass works well for this, so a mason jar would work fine; a glass display flask would also work well. I would recommend AGAINST using plastic for long-term infusing or storage. (I use these.)
-Either a second resealable airtight container, or a container of similar size to your first container.
-A large (room temperature) orange (For this infusion I'm going to use orange, but you should feel free to experiment with other flavors if you're not a fan of orange.)
-A cutting board and knife
-A funnel (preferably stainless steel as plastic can hold the flavor/odor of stronger ingredients)
-Coffee filters and/or a superfine food-safe strainer (I use this one.)
This sounds great, I love the idea of giving them out as gifts. Never thought about doing it with anything but produce from our garden and oil. I can't wait for this one, I have everything but the Vodka. But I better wait on getting that, there is no way it would fully last to the 21st.
We are not big drinkers around here (don't have the time) but I have friends this would make very happy to get as a gift.
Very interesting! I've done the skittles vodka before! Love
I've done that, too, but I wanted to do something more natural that had less sugar. I'm actually doing a mango infusion now that's going to come out sweeter than sugar because I forgot to buy more vodka, and didn't remember that til I'd sliced up my mango
I've also infused gummie bears for parties, that comes out well, too.
Some of our infused vodkas actually become liqueurs because we add sugar to the fruit. They aren't as useful as the base of a mixed drink, but they do make a fine after-dinner cordial.

You know, I had that happen when I was making wine. I wanted some sugar for a sweeter wine, and didn't add enough of the stuff to keep it from fermenting further. Bam! Banana liquor, since it's waaaay too strong to be a wine, lol.

So you're already an expert on infusing liquor! You can be my TA for this class

This reminds me of a recipe I found a while back that I've been meaning to try--an oatmeal infused vodka. Cinnamon, oatmeal, and little else, but all the reviews said it tasted just like drinking an oatmeal cookie. I don't need any further convincing past 'cookie', though.

I'm planning on doing a cinnamon raisin apple combination so I can definitely see an oatmeal cinnamon cookie being delicious!
This sounds awesome! I'm thinking peppercorn, vanilla, mango vodka... Or is that just craziness?
Definitely not! The mango I'm infusing now is going SUPER well, and I think that adding other flavours (I'm thinking pineapple/mango/banana ) would only improve it. Yum.
