A manufacturer by any other name...

I've seen the company get referred to by a few different names: CalEx, Calfornia Exotics, CalExotics, etc

What is the term you use around the office? Is there a particular name that is not right at all (like sugar puffy cocoa treats)?

Our official name is California Exotic Novelties. A little long for some people so Cal Exotics is the short versio.! That's what we use around the office!

Excellent question! The trademarks that we use most often are California Exotic Novelties®, and CalExotics®. We don't use CalEx, but many do...we actually don't care what people call us, as long as they call! When we started out, this company was licensed (by me) as Swedish Erotica...to this day, "oldtimers" in the business still call us "swedish." Swedish Erotica was the most famous 8mm films, and later home videos around the world. I owned Caballero Home Video from 1985 to 1993 with a partner, and we owned Swedish Erotica's trademark. Funny how things go full circle...now I'm happily employed at CalExotics! You will occasionally see some of our products branded as Swedish Erotica...we do this just to keep the name and trademark alive.

Swedish Erotica (actually Cinema Classics and later Caballero Home Video) was a line of first 8mm films, then shot on video. Many Hall of Fame (AVN) recipients got their start in the 8MM film business in the late 70's...Seka, John Holmes, John Leslie, Herschel Savage,Ron Jeremy, Paul Thomas, and Christy Canyon
appeared in loops labeled as Swedish Erotica...well over 500 were produced...not a one in Sweden!!!! It was a great marketing ploy, and boy did it ever work! We were Kodak's largest film customer through the early 80's...we had our own lab!
