Moving toward more body friendly materials?

I have noticed that Cal Exotics has been slowly inching towards using more body friendly materials. Is there a plan to eventually do away with the less safe materials (especially for anal play)?

Yes, a concerted effort! Take a look at all of our new products at link. You will see we have truly made a huge effort to use Silicone, TPR or TPE for all soft/flexible products. But, we are still not saying that any of the products that contain phthalates that remain part of our long history are toxic in any way. This debate will rage on, but we stand by our previous discussions on this subject, and that is that all our toys are non-toxic. We do, however, acknowledge that some people are sensitive to certain plasticizers, and we are making part of our overall mass appeal a move towards the materials that are less porous, hygienically superior, and more durable than any of the older type materials. California Exotic Novelties has more "Safe and Pure" or phthalate free products than any other manufacturer in the business.

Great to hear, thank you.

Our biggest concern in toys is latex content, so could you please verify whether or not Cal. Exotic's TPR contains natural latex? We've never been able to get a definitive answer on this. And is it possible that you might consider noting which products are latex-free in the future on the website?

No...there is -0- Latex in TPR or TPE....both of these materials are a class of polymers, the characteristics of which mimic many of those of Silicone...hygienic, soft, pliable, durable, non-porous, phthalate free, as well as recyclable. There is NO Latex in these materials. Use a water based lube, or California Exotic Novelties Universal Toy Lubricant, formulated to work with all materials, including Silicone toys. Also, we have very few items that contain Latex, probably less than 10 out of over 2800 items in our catalog, that we thought it best to just clearly mark the few that are 100% Latex as such...marking everything else as Latex Free would be pretty cumbersome..plus, with so many items in our catalog (print) which is now 512 pages and weighs 6 pounds, would add an extra entry for each item, and add pages at the end....so, my cop out is that we are being even more eco-friendly by saving paper and ink

Thank you so much for your answer. That definitely opens up a whole new list of toys on our "to buy" list then! I didn't realize that so few of your items contained latex, and so you're right, it does make much more sense for you to be marking the ones that *do* have it than don't.

Thanks again
Michele

Any time, my pleasure!

My biggest concern is the PVC material used for the Waterproof Jack Rabbit. Is the level of phthalates in this toy dangerous? Would it lead to any health problems for the person using it or for an unborn child?

Only if you plan on eating a small truck load of them! The studies on rats was based on consumption of phthalates, not exposure. I stand by my earlier statement that our products are non toxic. Newer items made with PVC are phthalate free. Look for our Safe and Pure logo on our products.

Thanks for the information, Al. Sometimes I forget that the study was done purely with rats. I wonder if we'll ever seen tons of well-done studies on humans (Probably not; probably goes against the ethics of research). It's an interesting idea though.

I'm glad to see that your newer items are safe and pure though; those are always good words. Thanks, Al!
