Plus sized models

Contributor: SaMiKaY SaMiKaY
I love Coquette lingerie. It is very well made and very comfortable. My problem comes when looking for something to purchase and all the plus sized lingerie is modeled by either a skinny woman, or their definition of a "plus sized woman" which seems to be a skinny woman with big breasts.

I don't always purchase what I want to these days because I never know how it will look on a true plus sized person!

So, I have a proposal for Coquette. I volunteer to be a TRUE plus sized model for your lingerie. I want women like me to be comfortable purchasing your products because they KNOW what they will look like on a true plus sized woman.

Any other women out there have the same problem I do?

I am plus sized, and I doubt Coquette will take you seriously. Sorry!
Anyway, I buy a lot of my clothes (the fancy ones) "hand made" to my specifications, though, so I don't tend to have the same problems. I've also done enough online shopping to know whether something will fit my shape well.

Haha, I don't think they will either! But hey, a girl can dream right? =P

If I had the money, I'd get mine done to my specifications!

I kinda feel the same way - being plus size I like to see how an item will look. Mind you, I have a very different body shape to most, so it would still probably look very different anyway.

There are some plus sized models on some lingerie items. Not sure which companies they are though.

Seven til Midnight has a gorgeous plus sized model that I have a girl-crush on. She's all curves, compared to the normal models that are all angles. I don't think Eden carries their products though.

Just looked them up! Gosh, why don't magazines show off women that look like this?! link

I have a pretty different body shape compared to most plus sized women too. I am more pear shaped but with, as my grandma calls them, football pad shoulders.

But I am more plus-size than most of the "plus" models (skinny with big boobs).

@Silverdrop, I checked them out, and if we are looking at the same woman... I think I have a crush on her too now! haha

I find that once I get familiar with a brand, I don't need to look at how it fits on the model. I know how Coquette, DreamGirl, and a few other brands fit on me with their sizing so I rarely care about how they look on the model and more about how they look.

I wish all companies were required to use a true plus sized model. If it's plus sized I think the girl needed to be a size 18 or larger not a size 14 or larger. Sighs.

I know Dreamgirl has plus-sized models for all of their stuff, and we have those pictures on here.

I wish there would be an easy way to tell what something looked at with modest sized breasts and not the 34D most of the models have. >_<

But then I have my own skinny girl complaints about the lingerie.

I'm not even really "plus sized" per say, but because of my body shape I have to buy plus sized lingerie. I've been losing weight and all of it is coming off my middle only right now, so my hips are still very curvy and so are my boobs. Oh well. I agree though, the plus sized models are rarely "real" plus sized girls. It's annoying.

I do kind of agree with you. I'm plus sized. But I'd much rather see their thin models, and think "Hey, I could look that sexy" than see someone who looks like me.

I, too, have a girl-crush on a plus size model (I know she's on other sites, but most notably Leg Avenue's site
Oh My God

I actually think the model Coquette uses the most for plus-size stuff lately (this one) is a way better representation of larger sizes than you usually see. Dreamgirl, for example, uses a girl that's probably about a 12 with obviously fake boobs-- totally not helpful.

I don't know much about lingerie models, but in "regular" fashion the typical so-called plus sized model is usually size 8-10, which obviously isn't what normal people think of as plus-sized. (Crystal Renn, for instance, who is probably the most famous plus-sized model working today is size 10.)

I think we all deserve to look and feel fabulous and that shouldn't depend on what the jackhole ad developers think people think is sexy. Sexy is sexy. It's a feeling, not a measurement. If the companies don't want to show that then they and their fancy airbrushers can just shove it.

It's sort of funny, because I have 34D boobies and I still can't tell what most things will look like on me... It has to be the airbrushing and other special junk most of these companies are doing in the pictures. Like I know VS usually puts their models into a cup size smaller than they should wear to give them more cleavage, as if being nearly 6 ft tall, 120 pounds and a C cup wasn't cleavage-y enough to begin with!

At the end of the day I think you just have to say f-it to the pictures and try things on before hand when you can, get to know the brands, know what styles look best on you, and then hope for the best.

I know the feeling, plus size lingerie on a skinny woman is also kind of insulting. I want to know what it looks like on someone built like myself, not a skinny woman who pulls off anything. Its very insulting and puts off the message that you have to be skinny to look good.

Size 10 is still skinny, not plus sized. :-/
