Hello Everyone,

As usual we have a few projects brewing in the mad science lab, and I wanted to see what your thoughts are on a few things.

During your average use, how important do you think the current Categories & Sub-Categories are? I am not really talking about formal company Categories ( like: Clubs, EdenLink, Customer Service), but more about what you use on a daily basis while interacting with the community.

My only issue is the navigation of the categories. It's like an explosion when you expand the section, and all the links, numbers and bullets bunched so close together kills my eyes.

As for the categories we have, I keep hoping a "Sports" category will be added, and I'd like to see "TV, movies, music and books" separated into individual categories (or at least into two).

I don't use the categories, so it doesn't make a difference to me. I just sort the forum by the most recent posts. If I'm looking for something specific I use the search.

I rarely use the categories or sub-categories because the majority of threads seem to be in the wrong folder. Admittedly it can be difficult to figure out the best category at times.

I only go to a subcategory when I want to post something, so I may not be one to talk. I think that maybe more general ones would be better, but I understand why there are so many specific ones in different sections.

I really don't see a way to have fewer subcategories, but perhaps we don't need them all listed on the main page. Maybe just the category could be listed, and if you scroll over it, a drop down menu could list the subcategories.

Well I think the way it is now must be confusing to many. So many times the question being asked has no relation to the section where it is located. When I ask a question I try to post it in the appropriate section, but when browsing the forum, I just open anything that looks interesting.

I have no problem with the number of categories, it is the sub categories that could use some work. I am not saying there are too many but like a couple others have mentioned, it is like an explosion on the screen when you open tab.

I am thinking maybe just the categories could be listed with a small description of what each is and then each one could have a separate page with all the sub categories.

If nothing else a bigger font and or more space in between each line would make it more easily read.

I don't pay attention to subcategories at all. I use search if I'm looking for something in particular, otherwise I browse most recent posts.

I've often wondered why the forums here don't use something like the phpBB template where there are a few parent categories each with a handful of child subcategories. Most forums out there use this or a similar format, so new users pretty much already know how to navigate the site before they start.

I like and use the sub categories to post in the right places and look up specific things if the search engine doesn't get me my answer.

Usually when I visit a thread it's something that has popped up on my wall via someone I'm following. The current categories are nice but the sub-categories don't always work for me. Sometimes people place things in categories I wouldn't consider the topic appropriate for. This can be confusing and has discouraged me from looking for threads this way. I would like more specific sub categories if that were possible. But I don't know how ya'll would do that

I think the sub categories are a bit overwhelming. I don't know if they can be condensed or not, but it just seems like a lot to take in.

I like them the way they are, the only thing I'd change is alphabetical order please!!!! And have the ability to collapse various categories. Like the personal stores, I never use it so I'd like the ability to make it smaller so other things are up front.

I like the idea about being able to collapse the categories. Ideally less is better, but I can't see there being too much less. And couldn't tell you were to start with cutting. I don't really mind it how it is because I really don't look at the forums like that. I just look at the recently made posts. I don't look to see what is in the category.

I like that idea about being able to collapse them, alphabetical order would be nice too.

forum navigation is a bit overwhelming to newbs, especially since it's so different from other forums. I voted fewer sub categories because I think it would easier to navigate the way things are now, but more concise navigation would work, too.

I would like to see a Misc. under each of the main categories. Sometimes there are issues or postings that would not fit under Social but go there anyway due to no Misc under the Review, Eden, Toys, etc. categories.

I'd love if we could be able to sort by specific area such as polls, comparisons, and discussions under the categories or the whole forum as a whole.

That is a good point. I would also like that - to be able to see just discussions, just polls, or just comparisons, rather than having them all jumbled together.
