I myself don't live in Austin, but I am up there at least once a month. There is lots to do, it just depends your preferences--I just got back yesterday from the Book Festival, which was just as awesome as it sounds (I saw Chip Kidd AND Alton Brown!).
Here are a few great spots:
Torchy's Tacos--tasty and creative tacos.
Your Mom's Burger Bar--gourmet stuffed burgers. Seriously... you have to go.
Parts and Labour--they sell handmade arts and crafts, and they have everything. All sellers featured are Texan, too, so state pride--woohoo!
The Good Knight--tasty tasty drinks. Kinda expensive, but a nice place to start the night at.
Buenos Aires Cafe--across the street from Good Knight on S 1st, and DELICIOUS. Very romantic ambiance, as well. They have a spicy dark chocolate creme brulee that will kick your ass, which you will thank it for.
Barbarella Video Bar, on Red River. Fun fun fun if you want a night out dancing!

Great events:
Texas Book Festival
Austin City Limits Music Festival
Texas Burlesque Fest
Fun Fun Fun Fest
Aaaand you have to check out the bat flight on Congress Bridge

Hope this agrees with someone out there!

I'll definitely have to plan a Good Knight/Buenos Aires Cafe date!!! I've even got a new dress!

I watch a lot of food porn (Food Network) and they have shown several times this trailer park that is just trailers of that sell food. One of them has a chocolate cake milkshake. If I ever go to Austin I am going there and to Frank's in Downtown Austin. Its a cafe slash hot dog joint. I have also heard of Pearl a restaurant.

So how are you liking Austin so far Kitty Vixen?

If I lived in Austin, I would love to visit the Vixen headquarters to steal a peek at all the toys. How drool-inducing it would be to be surrounded by VixSkin!

I'm loving Texas so far! As for visiting "Vixen South," unfortunately it isn't the Wonka-esque weiner factory dreams are made of~~we are only doing new design here! The shelves of Bucks, Mavericks and Leos are still safe and sound in San Francisco, the empty shelves anyway-we can't keep product in stock!

Oh good lord. Talk about good. I am crazy for the sweet potato fries and the Rockefeller right now.
Let me know what you think of that duo, and other spots you like! I'd love to check them out. I actually just heard of two more that I'm planning on visiting next time:
Full English Cafe--my sweetheart is a brit, so we are going to have great fun going over this menu and deciding what I should try first. :}
Bananarchy--customizable frozen bananas. NOM.
