Specific care instructions for VixSkin toys?

Contributor: Intertwining Intertwining
Hi there,

I will soon be the proud owner of a Mistress as well as a VixSkin Spur. I couldn't manage to find any specific instructions on the Vixen website nor on the forum, so I decided to ask here

While VixSkin consists of silicone which is generally hardy and almost-indestructible, I've heard stories of VixSkin permanently retaining textures and indents by storing them sideways and leaning against other toys (even if they aren't silicon) and such.

Is this supposed to happen?

Also, I think it's been proven in a number of forum posts that pure silicone toys shouldn't react with each other, but will the soft nature of the VixSkin react to other silicon toys?

I have limited storage space due to reasons of privacy, so I was planning to store them (sideways, not upright) in a padded toy pouch with the rest of my toys.. So I really hope that someone can give me some advice

Thanks!

Good questions cause I just got my very first VixSkin (Johnny) today. I was under the impression that it's very easy to care for.
I haven't heard much about VixSkin so I'm interested in replies.
Other silicone toys are soft like this VixSkin (basically feel the same to me) and they don't have a problem reacting to other silicone toys so I'd imagine VixSkin would be the same.

I haven't read any specific care instructions for VixSkin either.
I keep mine in a cloth bag but don't worry too much about orientation during storage. I have noticed any problems. I would definitely keep it away from other toys containing any amount of silicone because if the blends are different a reaction may occur especially since the formula is so soft.
I would also suggest avoiding silicone lubes with them even though some silicone lubes have been shown to be okay with some silicone toys, the reaction might not be quite as immediately noticeable again due to the softness of the material.
One of the great benefits of silicone (the ability to sterilize) is still available, so you definitely still have that.

Thanks Shellz31 and Jimbo Jones for the advice, but it'd be great if someone from Vixen could answer and put to rest all the unnecessary steps to take in caring for VixSkin, or not- I wouldn't want to take any risks in harming my new baby

At Vixen, we recommend that you store your product in the retail tube. Vixskin is fragile, like your own skin, so it could retain minor creasing or denting if it is stored with other products. Although the Mistress and the Spur will not interact adversely with each other, as they are platinum silicone, we cannot speak for interacting with your other products.
Best,
Kitty

Awesome - thankyou.
Good thing my VixSkin only arrived yesterday - I was going to throw the container out cause of the size but I shall keep it for Johnny!

I got the chocolate one and it really looks as though he is made from choccie - makes me want to eat it.

The softer silicones don't have as many cross-links between the molecules, so VixSkin would be more likely to interact with a different toy or lube than a stiffer silicone, and as has been noted it is much more susceptible to physical damage.

Ahh, thanks so much Kitty Vixen for clearing it up! Bummer, the tube is going to take up so much space

ScottA, but it wouldn't react with other (quality) silicon toys, right?

I store my Raquel in its original tube (upright). I've heard stories of indents in or damage to the soft material, so I prefer to err on the side of caution rather than risk damaging a good, expensive toy.
