I was looking through my wishlist today and realized there are several things on there I have bought - but none of them are marked as purchased. I don't understand why. Is there something I'm missing that needs to be clicked to mark it?

You need to purchase it from your wishlist. Then it will show up as purchased, but not if you buy it off the product page.

Correct. It's a feature to show who has gifted an item to someone else.
