Is it Kosher to use someone's affiliate code for a discount?

Contributor: P'Gell P'Gell
I don't have a blog. I may soon, I do not now.

I was wondering, if when placing an order, if it's OK to use an other member's affiliate code to get the 15% discount?

My only real quandary is who do I use? And, is it OK for a member to use these codes.

(Also, my Doc Johnson's code didn't work, although it's still 3 25, so I put the order on hold.)

Absolutely it's ok! In fact, any contributor would be ecstatic to have you use their affiliate code (cause they get credit for it)!

Oh and you don't need a blog to have a code. I have one too! I was only made aware of this a month or two ago and wish I had known sooner!

Use whose ever you want or create your own.

I believe that's what it is there for.

I didn't know you could create your own.

I didn't think we were allowed to use our own? This was hinted at in another thread several months ago, so I've always found other types of codes to use and have never used mine.

You can absolutely use your own code. Here is a thread where Carrie Ann discusses the very issue: link

Thanks for the link. That was the exact thread to which I was referring. From redvinylkitty's post and Gary's response to her, I gathered that it was generally frowned upon to use the affiliate discount code for our own personal purchases, so I've refrained from doing so. I had come to the understanding that the codes were intended for affiliates to pass out to their friends and acquaintances in order to drum up additional business and to get new customers.

If I need a discount code, I usually Google "EdenFantasys discount code" to see what RetailMeNot.com currently has posted or I look in one of my SexIs magazines.

Thank you all so much.

I had no idea we could get a code if we didn't have a blog or a store.

I'm still confused if we can use our own codes.

I was under the impression that one is not to give someone who can get their own code your code to use, (as then it takes away from their stuff) but I didn't know the rest of this.

Thank you all so much.

we can use our own codes

I never think about it though, but I usually order with a bigger coupon. There is a coupon out right now if you want me to forward the email to you! It is also 15%, the one that's in the email

yes, if that gives you the best deal, that is what it's for. they get 5% commission and you get 15% off. It's called the offline affiliate program.

but if you a reviewer the 30% buyout is a better deal of course.

message me if you want my code,

not sure , but if you use your own code it might only be 5 or 10 percent off i think, it says under eden points program i think

Sorry I didn't jump in here sooner, guys. You can use your own code to get a discount on purchases, or someone else's code the same way, but that wasn't (and still isn't) the intention of offering affiliates a code to use a coupon. The intention is to bring in new people to Eden.

So, you can use your code on your purchases, or you can use a different coupon code (either another affiliate's code or just a different coupon offer), but you can't stack coupons at checkout.

You don't need to have a blog to join the affiliate program and get an affiliate code.

If you know of people who are misleading other contributors who could have their own code, let me know. Affiliates should not give their code out to people already in the community without making it clear that, yes, you can get a code yourself. Affiliate codes are not for making money off people who are already a part of Eden. Be a good community member and introduce them to the affiliate program, too. They can enter your code as a referral, and you can have them as a second-tier affiliate. Then you can bring new people into the community by enticing them with your discount code. Make sense?

Feel free to email partners@edenfantasys. com with any questions related to this thread/topic.

This! I wish I had said it this good.

I used mine at my party (yes, I will do an article soon hehe) and I know it really intrigued a lot of people. They were very concerned about prices until I told them they'd all be leaving with the ability to save money. I have one who placed an order and another doing so tonight. I think I'll even be able to get one of them to review eventually!!!

Thank you, Kris. I did get an affiliate code and will only give it to friends who are only passing through Eden and buying things, not those who want to be part of the community.

I wish I had paid attention earlier, though.

I have posted my affiliate code as a coupon in a few of my blog reviews, and have given it to people in person with the flyers. I usually try to use one of the codes that come in the newsletter when posting online though, so I still get the full 20%.

Is it Ok to post it in reviews at all or should I stick to only handing it out with the flyers?

In your offsite reviews, I see nothing wrong with it. I've seen plenty include it in with the link back to the site saying something along the lines of "purchase this from EdenFantasys and use my code XYZ to get 15% off at the checkout." Using it in an onsite review is frowned upon, but on your blog you should be fine.

Yup, Sam has the right idea. It's up to the affiliate if they want to put their code as a coupon in their offsite reviews. You can also use affiliate links in offsite reviews, but there must always been one non-affiliate link (just a regular link with no pcode at the end) to an EdenFantasys page in the offsite review.

It's fine for members to use the affiliate codes of other members - or even their own, if they are so inclined. I have given mine to a number of friends and told them about the affiliate program, the reviewing program, etc. etc. There is a lot to explain to someone who is totally new to EF! I did make a point to tell them that they could get involved in the community, and get their own codes as well, though none of them have really wanted to put in the "time and effort that takes".

My affiliate code is TQ2, by the way!
