There used to be monthly review rumbles back a few years ago, and the rewards were $5/$10/$15 gift cards for the top 3 winners. I don't see them in the forums anymore. Did they stop? Why? What happened to them? They used to be such a good incentive to participate in writing fleshed-out, useful reviews and motivation to read/comment on other peoples' writing and rate it.
What happened to monthly review rumbles?

Dear iovys - thank you for bringing that up! We loved doing Review Rumbles, too!

We actually stopped doing them because noone was voting, noone was participating, even the one who got nominated, so the initiative had died down.
We would love to bring that back sometime though, especially if that would liven up the community.

Ah, that's such a shame. I found them to be a good motivation.

The community itself seems to have weakened in the past few years. I wonder what happened - there was a student program too, but that also was done away with, from what I saw.
I recall people would vote on reviews, based on how useful they were, leave comments/questions... And that would aid with reviewer rank. I don't really see that kinda life on my past few reviews, so I was kinda wondering if they're even being seen, you know? That's what brought me here to the forums. Not really sure what could be done to liven this place back up, but I'll continue posting while I can

We were active at that time and enjoyed participating in the Rumbles. As Leil@ mentioned, there was not much voting. Reviewers were winning with just a few votes. Some votes seemed to be casted for "friends". Some reviews were winning and very little content in them.

If you read the current reviews, you will see hardly any ratings on them. And many reviews are very short and don't really say much about the product.

We've noticed that the community seems to have died quite a bit from when we started over a dozen years ago. Agree with OH&W that most of the newer reviews don't have much content compared to the efforts many put into them in the past. It used to be nice to win the Rumble the odd time and use the gift card to pay for shipping on the next item to be assigned. Now it seems like there's not much to even choose from to review. Hopefully things pick up and we're eager to get back into writing about our experiences with some new products.

Oh, that's rather unfortunate. I think I had to taper off my reviewing around or before the time when what you mentioned started happening. Still sucks that people did that. I kinda was of the impression that reviews should be, you know, thorough & objective so that buyers could make their own choice instead of "omg it's amazing try it". Like, that's... not all that useful lol. I try to keep mine as objective as I can.

Regarding the ratings - that's exactly what brought me here to the forums, like, what happened? Where'd everyone go? Why aren't they being seen/rated, and how could we make this better?
When I look at most of the current reviews, I totally get what you're saying. Many are barely a few sentences long that say a lot of words but convey almost nothing of value.

Yeah, I really like having the gift card wins. I still have like a handful left over, but they won't last forever.

Not only is there not much to choose from to review, but I check the catalog daily, sometimes multiple times a day. I see products appear and disappear so quickly. For example, there was Starlight. Saw it, slept on the decision whether or not to request it, and it was discontinued when I went to try and get it. Did a bunch of reviewers snatch it up? If so, I didn't see it get any reviews in the Community News. Did it get immediately sold out? Like... I have so many questions lol.
I also noticed that brand name products have become far less common, including ones that are extremely popular and sold regularly in other stores. Now, the vast majority is under EdenFantasys' name. I used to use my commission payouts to pay for brand name toys to review, but I don't see that option in checkout anymore either (though, Leil@ said that we can move the money onto a gift card)... So all in all, I'm feeling a bit conflicted, if that makes sense.
I'm hoping that things are okay on EF's backend.
