I have noticed when I bothered to check out other forums that they were very different from what I encountered here at Eden when I joined and currently. People were not as friendly or helpful, there was so much nitpicking, critisism and rudeness--and it was tolerated by the moderators of those sites!! I do not even check into facebook much anymore other than to grab pics of my family. And the advertisements!! Wow!
In my opinion, the very personal subject matter of the site is part of the reason EF is such a warm community. It would be difficult to act in a rude, confrontational, unhelpful and cold manner after writing reviews about toys we have used sexually. A lot of our forum discussions are about personal, medical and sexual issues, relationship questions and issues in our daily lives. After being so open and honest about many taboo subjects, and discussing topics we might not talk to our partners about, it would be very difficult to close down and become impersonal again.
Also--look at the example Eden sets for its members! The staff is available, friendly and very helpful. The company gives us opportunity for so many free items and discounts and the site makes it easy to participate up to your comfort level You do get out of it what you put into it!!
The amount of diversity, different lifestyles, economic and religious differences, and the many other factors that can be listed, should by nature create a chaotic mess. Instead the whole entirety of the site creates an extended family. Wouldn't it be wonderful if more businesses functioned as well and had the same high standards?!!
