Does Jane Exist? Do you think women buy sex?

Today's SexIs article "Solicitation:The Secret Life of Johns, Part Two — The Secret Life of Jane" by Rachel Rabbit White, was not only extremely fascinating, but quite informative as well.

What are your thoughts on this topic?

And on a more personal level (if you're willing to share)... Would you hire an escort? Under what circumstances (would it be different if you were away on vacation)? Why or why not?

I wouldn't hire an escort, simply because sex is much more of an important, deep, personal thing for me that I wouldn't want to share with just anyone.

I'd be surprised, honestly, if Janes didn't exist.

It seems to me that buying sex is, in a way, buying power. Men take the power for granted, but for women there's still something new and intoxicating about gaining that sort of power.

No, I haven't done it, but now that the idea has occurred to me, I'm pretty sure I'll be writing fiction about it.

I want to read it!

I like your insights. And even though it's definitely something I would never do, I find it quite intriguing.

That's an interesting take on it. From what I've read in sociological studies of sex work, a large proportion of female prostitutes find their work empowering - they feel that they are in full control of their body and situation, and enjoy manipulating men for money.

I don't think there is a power exchange inherent in sex.
