Sex, Fashion, and...the Bob!

We're launching a new series of articles today on Sexis, by our one and only high editrix herself, the inimitable Luxury Holmes, who's set about tracing the parallel lines of sex and fashion from the beginning of the 20th century through current trends. Today's piece examines the early portion of the 20th century, from Coco Chanel to the age of the Flappers.

Which means that we're gonna talk about Louise Brooks. And if you don't know who Louise Brooks was, you are TOTALLY missing out. Fashion icon, seductress extraordinaire, ahead-of-her-time feminist---all before the age of 30. What makes her even more special is her rebirth many years later as an accomplished writer and film historian (if you're a film buff, check out her collection of essays entitled Lulu in Hollywood).

Excellent article, Louise Brooks is fantastic. I studied 1920's-1930's German film in college and naturally "Diary of a Lost Girl" and "Pandora's Box" came up as films I had to see. Both excellent works, very sexy and seductive and ahead of their time.

If you're a Brooksiephile like I am, you HAVE to get the Criterion version of Pandora's Box. The restoration is absolutely breathtaking.
