A question about the status of items on EF.... Out of stock vs Discontinued vs Not available for sale?

Contributor: Solar Ray Solar Ray
Ok so I think I know what out of stock means... the item is sold out so it will be days to weeks to months before it comes back in stock. Often frustrating but I understand that one.

Then there is Discontinued... I assume that this item is no longer made or available from the manufacturer so we'll never be able to order it again on EF. Sad in many cases because there are some VERY appealing products that are now discontinued.

Then I've come across a third category... "Not available for purchase". What are these items? Out of stock... discontinued... sex toy purgatory? Here's an example:

The Fulfill-a-fantasy flogger says it's "not available for purchase" so is that something different than out of stock and discontinued or is it also just another way of saying discontinued?

This question has been asked before, so I'm taking my answers directly from staff responses in other threads...

So, you have your in-stock items, which are, obviously, sold right here right now.

Then you have out of stock, which is something that may or may not come back in stock.

Then you have discontinued, which means either the manufacturer has decided not to sell it anymore or that EF has decided not to sell it anymore.

Finally, you have not available for purchase, which are items that have never been available for sale. They might have been purchased by people from other places, or sent to EF by the manufacturers for review. They may or may not ever come into stock.

Also there are some items that say discontinued that are pending their first review and do end up being sold. If you have something on your wishlist and you then see that it has gone discontinued it is what DS said.

I have seen exceptions to the last two categories that DS listed.

I think there might also be another thread about this somewhere. I believe I put a link in there to my wishlist of items that were available for sale, but are not anymore.

Thanks for the quick responses.

So essentially if an item says "not available for sale" we can likely assume it won't be for sale anytime soon and forget about watching for it to become "in stock"... or maybe not.

EF would really benefit from the use of an "expected restock date" system for their items so we'd have a better idea of when to go ahead and do an order or wait for items to become available.

Well, if an item says not available for purchase, it means that nobody except Eden can predict if or when it'll be in stock. It means that it's never been for sale yet buuuut...

And Lauren is totally right, "Discontinued" items do come into stock, and things that've never been for sale can be brought in.

And I agree that an expected restock date/number of items left for purchase feature would be a nice addition.

I think not available for purchase means the item will come in soon and they're kinda giving you a preview of it.
