Have you ever had experience with a used USPS tracking number? (especially with international orders)

My order has been shipped today, but when I try to track it, it shows the status "Attempted Delivery abroad" in Australia in 2009 (and I live in Russia). I requested more info from USPS archives and I soon saw the whole succession of tracking statuses that you see when you track an international package (Electronic Shipping Info Received, Arrival, International Dispatch, Arrived Abroad, Into Foreign Customs etc.), which did happen in 2009 to Australia. Clearly, the number has been used already for another package.

Has anyone encountered this? What happened?
(I started this discussion in "Shopping the Site" because I did not know which category would be more appropriate)

It seems the number is wrong and from an old sell. send a support ticket to ask for the right one.

Thanks for the answer!
By the way, here's an update: after a few hours it started tracking as if the number was right from the beginning.
I guess, USPS are recycling old tracking numbers.

Hmmm, haven't come across this problem.
If they are reusing old tracking numbers, then they should wipe the old ones from the system so that kind of thing doesn't happen.

I'm so not a fan of USPS! They have issues!

They kinda lost tracking when the shipment left the US. Maybe there was a note when it reached our customs, I don't remember.

The USPS definitely recycles tracking/delivery confirmation numbers, though it's usually six months to a year before it happens.

Yes, but only at first. They soon gave me a new tracking number without me sending in an inquiry to anyone.

Seems to me I have had this happen once (Not with an eden order) And the same thing happened. Checking it later, the number had 'refreshed' to my own package.
