What is EF doing to keep underaged people off the site?

Contributor: Airekah Airekah
I am not sure if the administration has seen some of the recent posts listed around but I think there may be under aged people using the site. What does Eden Fantasys do to prevent this from happening? As to protect themselves?

I have noticed the posts in question, and I do agree that it may be a problem. The thing is- like a porn site- it's kind of up to the individual to say, "I'm not of age, I have to turn around!" I'm not sure if there really IS anything EF can do about a couple of underage people abusing the site, as there is no way to really confirm if someone is of age, that I know of anyway.

It's actually really simple. Adam and Eve uses a credit card check. They can verify your age via your transaction by checking who the card belongs to, their age, gender, etc. Eden doesn't have that. But, I know I had to buy something from there for my wife because she was only 17 at the time. I know it wouldn't stop someone from posting in the forums, but Eden can ban them once they tried to make a purchase. Not sure if it costs anything to start doing the card checks though.

I wonder, if as a community, we need to take some type of responsibility to assure that these people that fall through the cracks are removed if found to be lying about their ages. I love Eden, I just don't want them to fall into any problems.

It shouldn't be hard to do. Just add another flag/ticket option. "Possible Underage" or "Suspected Minor" option lol. Then they could just ask for links to posts/forums that the suspected minor was in and then they could take it from there. However, I have a feeling if they did that, a lot of people would either stop posting in the forums because some people might think it's their duty to point out every single little suspicion they have.

I could see this as a benefit and also as a drawback, as you stated. Suspicious activity can be hard to judge sometimes, but for cases where it seems obvious. I feel like something should be done.

I agree. I love this site, and I definitely don't want stupid people, trying to act grown up, ruining it for us.

But then how does A&E verify through paypal customers? I've only ever shopped with them thru paypal (I don't trust them entirely) and have never been requested to give any proof of age of any sort.

Not sure how they do it through pay pal. Never used it so...

You can sign up for the Points program here as soon as you make a profile and would never have to use a credit card.... But they could ask for verification of ID by asking for DL #'s or scanned copies of IDs... which could still be faked... but at least they would be in a CYA situation.

Wow. We have a very active volunteer police force. I agree it looks in bad form and I don't think it'll make EF look good. I guess I just didn't want to be the whistle blower. I've only been on this site for a few weeks. Is this site usually this...well, full of weird stuff, like HerBabi/Southernhawtie , and underage kid, or is this a bizarre recent development.

The funny thing is that this minor probably would never have had any problems if she hadn't essentially announced that she's a minor. I wonder why she thought that was a good idea, like that was going to impress someone...? Kids shouldn't try and act like like they're grown. tsk tsk

Hello!

I'd like to take a minute to address your concerns.

First things first--I'm going to quote from our TOS:

18 years and older

This website is intended solely for viewing by an adult audience. By continuing to view any material contained within this website, you are stating and acknowledging that: You are an adult over the age of 18. You will not allow anyone under the legal age of 18 to have any access to materials contained within. You are voluntarily continuing to view this site and will be exposed to material of an adult nature. If you are not comfortable with this, please close this page.

We expect all users to be in legal compliance. However, should the question of age arise, we will deal with the matter privately with the person in question. We hold our members to that compliance and we can and will request age verification documents if necessary. As it stands, there aren't any ways to verify a user's age through credit cards or any other way.

Any user found to be under 18 will have their account immediately disabled.

As for the flag suggestion, that's not a very good idea. There has already been abuse of the flags we have now and adding another will potentially lead to more abuse. If you suspect a user of being underage, please e-mail me at kristi@edenfantasys.co m with all of the information you have (i.e. screen name, links) and I will investigate.

The staff and I appreciate your concern, but don't worry, we have this covered.

Thank you.

It's a problem a lot of minors, young adults, and even older people... I mean, if you look on facebook, a quick 5 minute search and you can easily find people who post pictures of themselves, underage, drinking and smoking. A few of my mom's friends even posted pictures of themselves HOSTING a dog fight. If people didn't try to impress everyone, there wouldn't be as many problems for them.

The only problem with that is that not everyone has a credit card. On Bad Dragon they have this issue a lot, and at one point there was a mass banning when about 8 people were found out being underaged. The kicker was some of the people were posting porn of themselves and role playing sexually with people on the forums. That alone could have gotten the whole company shut down due to child pornography.

It turned into a drama fest and took a while to settle down, but it's hard to verify who's a minor and who's not. So far mods have to send messages to suspected minors and they are required to send a picture of themselves holding their ID to prove their age. Problem with that, too, is not everyone has a camera. :/

Thanks, I just didn't really know exactly what the protocol for suspecting or dealing with a situation like this was. Didn't mean to cause an uproar.

Except not everyone owns a valid credit card or will submit to such invasive practices.

It's almost assured that EF has legal council that has checked out their procedures in light of what EF does. Leave it to the pros is my take on the situation.

True. If I had to enter the information on my drivers license to join EF I wouldn't have joined.

It looks like those in question for being underage are drawing this attention to themselves because they are spamming and possibly pointfarming. If that is the case, it has as much to do with their age as it does their abuse of the forums.

Regardless of whether they act immature or actually are, such conduct isn't welcome. Its pretty damn annoying.

I'm just curious if Eden ever looked into some sort of age verification system, as I feel like a certain account that has popped up lately is likely to be someone underage.
