Should we be able to edit comments on reviews and products?

Contributor: Cherrylane Cherrylane
I recently had an accidental double post and it reminded me of a thought I've had several times before: comment editing and even deletion. It seems like being able to edit comments would be a nice feature. I know it's not a big deal, but all the same lol. What do you guys think?

I think it would be nice to have the same window we have on forum posts; even if we couldn't leave it as open forever, even a 15 minute window would be nice.

Yes, I really hate commenting then finding that I made a typo!

Yes. I type fast and thus typo a lot. I also sometimes forget what I started saying and then end up with a sentence that makes no sense. So I'd love to be able to edit my sometimes crazy comments. I agree, the 15 minute window would be fine.

I hate when I either make typos or leave something out. I hate making an other post to correct this.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to edit our own comments in the Review section.

Being able to edit and delete comments would definitely be a great feature. Good idea!

Good call. Agree completely. I sometimes make an error and it irks me, but the comment is already up and there is nothing I can do about it.

To me, I don't really care either way. I'm fine with not being able to edit comments.

It would be nice for us to have that feature, but being able to delete posts or comments at will could open up the doors to nasty behavior that would be difficult to verify in the end.

I wouldn't even necessarily need a 15-minute window. I like the option where, when you hit "post" (or whatever), it takes you to another window showing your post. and you can either hit "edit" and fix any problems or just post it right away. I haven't used all the posting options here yet, but I think this is what it does for reviews ... and maybe elsewhere? It just encourages a quick double-check, and I usually find anything I'd want to change at that point.

Admittedly, I was "meh" at first. But after reading the posts, I can see some merit to this.

Maybe something like forum edits? As long as no one comments after you?

I agree with the 'window' option like on the forums

As someone new to the EF community, I find that correcting typos (edit) at ANY time would be good for me. However, once you hit 'post' I think it stays forever with no option to delete. I don't know how that would work, I would check with JR.

Eh. I guess it would be nice, but comments are usually so short and simple that it's not that big of a deal if there's a typo. And people understand double posts.

I agree with DeliciousSurprise. I'd like to see something like the feature on forum posts. I'd like more than 15 minutes to correct for my stupidity though. Maybe a day or two, so I could read it the next day and see how dumb I sounded. I also like the immediate "fix the typo" option. I'm not really bothered by double posts, but while we're at it, why not be able to fix that too. I think this is a good idea all the way around.

Good idea. A lot of times I wanted to correct or add something right after I've hit the post button.

This is the first thing I thought of as well. Though I think if it were the same as the forums - you can only edit it until someone posts below you - that would probably prevent the worrisome behavior.

Yeah, the window option is a good caveat to the ability to edit comments and posts.

I think it would be nice to be able to edit comments - maybe a 5 - 10 minute window after you post. I always feel awkward when I make a mistake and then have to write a correction below. Not that big of a deal though.

I don't think deleting comments is necessarily a good idea, but I would like to be able to edit my comments after I post them. I can't tell you how many times that I read a review, think they missed something, tell the reviewer they missed something, only to find out that I read the review too fast.
