*News* - 'Expectations of Conduct', Report Abuse flagging and a community mediator!!!

Contributor: Victoria Victoria
So, you may have noticed new links next to every post on the forums thread – and you may have noticed the static link on the forums page that says ‘Expectations of Conduct’, well, there have been some updates!

Please read through the Expectations and familiarize yourself.

The ‘Flags’ link, when clicked, will lead you to a Report Abuse screen that gives you several flags to choose form. Flagging is public – so be sure before you flag someone’s post. There is an ‘additional comments’ area after you choose your flag that will only be viewable by the administrator.

As we mention in the Expectations of Conduct, we prefer to mediate disagreements and issues – not censor. We cannot work around the clock but we do want someone to be on hand at night some of the time, so we reached out to one of our most active contributors – Sammi - and asked her to please be our night-time representative, and mediate on the forum. She’s going to be working around 3 hours a night through the weeknights. If Sammi is not around, you should always feel free to email Gary, Laurel or me with any issues. We do expect that everyone will be respectful and welcoming of Sammi’s efforts. She’s here to help!

Remember, the Eden staff page is here for you to email us with ease.

We hope the Expectations of Conduct will make this community even stronger and more comfortable for everyone.

Thanks again for all of your support!

Just for the sake of showing an example - I am posting this comment so that Carrie Ann can flag it and you'll see how it will look when someone flags a post. **please do not use the flags in a joking manner though - these are to be taken seriously and only used in real cases** ok, disclaimer over, example time!

Sammi, you're awesome for taking this on!

And the flag system is really cool. Good job everyone!

The Expectations of Conduct is a great addition to the site!

As Victoria said, I'll be on about 3 hours a night reading the forums and mediating if needed. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!

Hey this is just brilliant! Michele had mentioned that there was going to be some helpful ground rules going into effect to keep the forums pleasant, but this is the first time I've actually gotten a chance to read them for myself. Great work!

I mean, yanno, as an official mediator and such. It's not like you have not been around in a big way already.

I'm a tad confused - what will happen as a result of flagging?

Welcome Sammi, and thanks! I think that this is a great idea to have someone be there to help diffuse any tensions that might arise from forum posts. Having a mediator will help insure that things don't get taken too far while everyone can still voice their opinions and points of view! Kudos to Sammi for taking this position and the EF staff for the efforts in making EF such a great community!

*BUMP*

I've been wondering this as well. How many flags does it take before an email is sent to the offender by Eden Staff or is it just to inform the person that that type of post isn't necessarily considered welcome.

One flag = an email. We (usually, me or Gary) email after every flagging.
