NEW Forum Area - Community Classifieds - (preliminary feedback needed)

Contributor: Gary Gary
Hello Everyone,

In the next few weeks, we are going to be setting up a Community Classified area for all of you. Instead of trying to think up all the categories that you all might find useful, I thought I would just ask you directly what you think. Please list any ideas for categories that you would like to see. (and also any other ideas or suggestions)

Gary, If you are going for a "Classified" section as in a newspaper, then this could get to be quite a large area. For one thing, I would think that those who offer discounts on their "stores" might want to have those listed there. I could also see all of the advertisers from Eden Link being a port of this if it is opened up to them. I don't know how others would feel, but I am not sure that "Personals" would be appropriate, but that isn't my decision to make.
These are just some ideas to get things started.

Would this be used for toy swapping?

I'd like to see a bdsm category for it; it'd make it easier to narrow down things that fall under my specific interests.

This sounds interesting, though I can't seem to think of anything to add to it. I'd like to know what your primary goal for it is.

Can it be for not-related-to-sex stuff, too?

If it's classifieds, what about a toy "freecycle"? Maybe an area to get feedback on reviews.

What a neat idea! The categories that came to mind first were: pet supplies, clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts, game/book swap, editorial services...things like that.

Especially a "goods" service.

I'm not really into the idea of swapping toys with anyone. I know things can be sanitized, but it just gives me the heebie-jeebies to think about putting something in my vag that was used by someone I'm not intimate with.

That's me though. I can avoid the section. NBD.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about it. I mean, how much of a traditional newspaper "Classifieds" are we talkin'?

I am asking you, what do you want? So suggest anything you would like to see here.

To answer a few of your questions:

Toy Swap - I am not sure. This should be regulated, however the classifieds really should not become a highly regulated area with programs and rules. (Monitored though for abuse - yes).

Perhaps if some of you want to put together a program for this, with a set of rules and requirements, and a way to rate - approve - or accept participants that could be a possibility.

Eden Link - Eden Link is for manufacturers not retailers. These manufacturers do already have a number of onsite methods for promoting and showcasing new products.

Non-Sex Related - Yes! This is a community of regular people after all. Outside of sharing an interest for Sex Toys, everyone still buys/sells/trades non-sex toy related things.

Here are a few categories suggested already... pet supplies, clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts, game/book swap, editorial services. Editorial Services is a great example of something beyond the typical buy / sell / swap.

Thanks, Gary. A regular classified section would be really great - as a way of helping each other out. I think some people may be concerned about the actual mailing of items (giving out names and addresses), but something can be worked out.

YES!! I have been trying to find a site to sell our used adult DVDs. This would be perfect and would really create traffic growth for the company! Here are a couple of categories I would like to see: Used adult DVDs, books/magazines, collectible magazines.

Thank you guys for your continual evolution of EF - it is an amazing site!

Here's something I was thinking on for a while: A crash pad. Like, say, you put on the classified ad - "Living right outside Washington D.C., guest bedroom available, close to public trans, only $20 a night, no smokers."

Then if another Edenite was looking to travel to D.C. for a vacation, especially if they were going alone, and didn't want to have to stay in either a crappy motel or spend over $100 for a really nice place, they would have another Edenite to stay with. Or even if someone put in an ad to share the costs of a hotel room.

I know there are plenty of inherent flaws and possible issues in this idea but if each person got to decide what their criteria was and get to have final veto power if they can't trust or feel comfortable with the other person when communicating with the would-be traveler, this could save people lots of money and create stronger friendships.

I mean, I'm a paranoid person as it is but there are definitely some people here I would feel pretty comfortable with. And who has lots of extra cash anymore in this recession? And I heard about a home-swapping thing that is apparently doing really well when traveling abroad (which, to me, is even more trusting).

What progress has been made for the classifieds? I really hope this works, I think it would be great for the site. I was thinking of a barter section, example: Will do 10 blog articles for partial web design. I also have a whole set of vintage Playboys that would go great for the classifieds.

I really like the classifieds! I just put up two ads. It was really simple and quick and I like that. The simpler the better in my opinion. I like that there's a text limit because it keeps everything short and to the point but I would like to have it extended or doubled to type a little more. I had difficulty fitting in all the important info. I love the idea of trading/selling things that aren't sexual at all, like crafty things or clothes ect. I think it would be cool if after we sell something we would get a short review or some sort of rating. But I really trust everyone around here anyway so that's probably not such a big issue after all.
