I bet a number of folks lose their comfort level. Our intent is NOT to insult or make anyone uncomfortable with this topic, so accept our apology if this seems a bit over the top, but this is a
serious discussion question.

Let me start by saying we have two other couples, all long time married, monogamous and happy as far as we can tell. We all speak VERY openly and honest about everything, including sex. This
topic came up, of all things, over a great Pot Luck BBQ last weekend. Now I have to ask the larger EdenFantasy community their opinion on the subject.

Let's start with some facts. All of our six "friends" watch porn with their spouse. Two of our couples do regularly as part of their "background" when having relations. We ALL have noticed that

I think you have to really like anal sex and cum for this to be on your radar. From what I have seen here at the forum I'm the one and only poster who is open about enjoying ATM. That surprises me since I do know other people my age who are pretty open about doing it or wanting to do it. Other... I am ok with the idea of trying ATM, but rimming just doesn't sound remotely interesting/arousing to me. Something about the direct contact or the fact that receiving the same techniques during "vanilla oral" doesn't do it for me...

I think ATM could be hot the in the same way as watersports, as a kind of degrading domination. I just want to do more research about the possibility of getting ill from it, though.

We've done it, it's not my thing, but I don't find it disgusting, per se, it's just not an activity that I enjoy. I think there are too many people who have societal taboos imposed on them. What I think is more intriguing about your post is how it started with everyone saying "EW" and then going, "Well.... we kinda do that.... ummmmm....." I don't really think that there's much that's taboo in sex.

Also, my answer isn't there... I don't see the big deal, but I don't do either, because I simply don't enjoy it.

I agree with BBW, too many people are stuck on societys views of what is taboo. If something feels right for you, then go for it. You will know soon enough if you like it or not. Yes there is a possibility of getting rotovirus or such but there is that possibility every time that you use a public bathroom or flush your toilet too close to your toothbrush.

We have done ATM once or twice and it was something that just happened as a natural extension of our playing. We are both very clean, though do not do enemas before anal activity. I know! isn't it funny how selective people are when it comes to which potential dangers and warnings they choose to pay attention to or ignore. The potential for danger in getting behind the wheel of your car and driving a few miles is likely much greater than the risk taken in any sort of atm sex, but because of how people are conditioned to think about things you'd probably have this enormous amount of people who would be all nasty and snotty over the situation that involves much less risk. And that tells you its not really just aboutn safety, it is about social taboo. Which is what makes certain activities so fun to begin with!

There's a reverse of this - using saliva as lube for anal sex is also frowned upon. Bacteria in your mouth does not belong in your anus and vice versa.

I'm confused, by what ATM represents.

I mean, if you go from anal sex, take off the condom wipe the penis off a bit to remove a bit of the latex smell and then suck the penis...thats great.

There is a "bacterial transfer difference amount" between rimming a really clean ass which has not has anything IN it since washing to "bring down" GI bacterial, and ATM either fingers or toys or a penis.

The outer area of the anus, if recently cleaned, will have little bacteria on it. However, if a toy or finger or penis are placed into the anus, it will most likely come in contact with GI bacteria at it's source, such as E. Coli, Listeria, Hepatitis, certain types of parasites etc.

I can say with some certainty that with over 50 years of total marriage and sex between our three couples...and many hours of "rimming" apparently, from all three couples (with each others partner, ONLY, as I explained...this is three open MONOGAMOUS couples, not a swingers group), no one of us has ever had any medical problem we can relate to ANY sex activity..including this. Not an STD between us, either. Of which I am a voter. I enjoy the attention but don't particularly want my tongue doing the same poking. I am willing to do ATM and have, however infrequently. I bear in mind the bacterial risks that P'Gell mentioned, but I do find it hot and as long as my partner is into it and I'm up to the task, why not?
