Anal relaxation products?

Contributor: Silverdrop Silverdrop
I'm a bit wary of trying any sort of desensitiser for anal play, but I know there are some products that claim to help relax the muscles. Does anyone have any recommendations about what would work best? I rarely do anal, simply because it takes so bloody long! There's nothing I can really do about the cleanup time, before and after, but if I could speed up the 'try and get the muscles to relax' stage, it would be nice.

I don't use desensitizers. They only help you avoid the pain, but that doesn't mean you're ready for anal, your muscles still need to be relaxed manually. Can't you spend 4 to 5 minutes doing finger-play? Patience and a well-lubed finger for 5 minutes, followed by an anal plug for another few minutes is all you need, to get your hole ready for the more serious stuff.

I think getting ready for anal is 90% mental relaxation. You have to be mentally ready and relaxed. When you know for sure you're going to enjoy anal, you most likely will. Of course, I support Rossie's suggestions in addition.

Five minutes isn't nearly enough. I need more like 20-30.

As I said, I don't want numbing products - that defeats the whole point, right?! - but there are some products that claim to help the muscles relax, and I was hoping someone had tried them and new what was good.

I have Pjur Back Door link - it's a silicone lube with botanicals like Jojoba & Amyris that are suppose to help you relax. I like the lube - does it help me relax? Maybe if so the help is subtle. Relaxation is 110% mental - it helps now that my wife has accepted the idea that I like anal play, so I don't worry about whether she thinks I'm gay. My challenge is to get her to relax - she just says 'it doesn't do anything' for her. That's the self-fulfilling prophesy, if she decided to like it she would.

Back to the topic - I've also tried the Intimate Organics product link. It feels nice as well.

I suggest trying them to see if they work for you - but don;t forget to mentally relax, then the botanicals can add to the equation.

They may or may not help you relax, but almost all of it is mental. If a placebo will help you relax then they might be worth it, if not then you probably won't notice much of a difference. Go slow, figure out how your body works, and discover the pleasure of anal play before trying anything big.
