Why do you think it is that anal plugs have bases, or moreover, why they have that big plug and then the space in between the plug and the base that rests where your opening is? Do you think it's so that the opening will stay tight in order to make anal sex more arousing (it feels better when you're tighter (in a way-but not too tight, so it doesn't hurt), doesn't it?), or because you want to keep it tight enough so that hemorrhaging won't occur? Any opinions or comments on the subject? I just got to thinking about it.
Do you find this weird?

I am going to have to say mainly so it stays in.
If you have ever tried a toy that does not have a decent neck in comparison to its bulb you will understand this. You have to give yourself the reach around to get it to stay in or it just slips right back out. It is rather annoying.

Well, they are designed in this way actually so that it stays in without being sucked into the anal canal. Plugs have bases for this purpose - to keep the plug in without letting it go too far, and they have necks (the thin space where the tush closes around the plug) to keep it from being popped out.
It's multi-purpose.
I wonder, though, why you would ask when you've written a review on a plug?

It's just one of those things I don't really think about often - That was also my first anal plug review, so I'm kind of a beginner to the world of anal.

Seconded. It's there so it stays in place...otherwise it would pop right out.

Hemorrhaging? Honey if you have any experience with a hemorrhaging ass while you use anal toys, I'd seriously reconsider sticking anything up ypur ass in the first place.

Feeling the toy trying to pop out is quite annoying, and it takes your mind away from enjoying the moment.

Also, the neck needs to be thinner than the base otherwise your plug could be sucked in...and that would just...well...suck.
The thicker the neck, the wider the base will be for safety reasons.

It's really annoying to have a base that is too wide so that it is impossible to keep in. A perfect base, in my opinion, should be no thicker than 3/4" and about 3/4-1" long. This gives the anus something to grab onto, and if it's designed right, then you can move the plug around hands free....which is of course the quickest way to a rocking pspot orgasm.
