Aesthetically I don't see the point, but practically there can be a benefit. The ability to "gape" means that you're pretty good at relaxing your anus at will, which helps if you like to play with big toys.

I can gape pretty easy, it's just learning to relax your ass. So when you pull the toy out of your ass, stay relaxed and try to avoid closing your anal sphincters where you really have the feeling of being in control of your anal sphincters. A little bit of pushing the toy out can help (but not too hard, just a tiny tiny bit). And of course when you try larger toys/plugs, the muscles in your butthole are more relaxed so more success for an anal gape.
