Does anyone know if it is possible to insert a dildo too far? When I use toys at home, I usually have to stop after 5 or 6 inches, but I know others can go much farther. Is it just me? Is it safer to avoid even trying to go father?
How far is too far?

That depends on your body. Everyone is different. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about how deep he or she recommends you insert things. The best bet is to just do what's comfortable for you. If you insert something too far, you'll know! It is possible to bruise something inside, especially if you thrust something in fast; but if you want to try slowly and carefully inserting a toy more than 5/6 inches, I'd say try it. Just listen to your body!

It depends on your body's configuration, how much (and what muscles) you are able to relax, and the material. The rectum curves several times, and inside there are several things that you can run into if they aren't relaxed (Houston's valves are in the lower/middle rectum).
Once you reach the top of the rectum, there's another bend and a sphincter in order to get into the pelvic (or sigmoid) colon, and this might be what you're running into.
Remember, relaxation is the key, not forcing something in or gritting your teeth through the pain. Move slowly and wiggle/rotate whatever you're trying to insert.

Thanks for the advice.
What about hard v. soft toys? Is one better than another for deep insertion?

For me, softer toys are better for deep insertions, as they will work with my body's curves instead of making my body accomodate the toy. Or at least, that's how I think of it.

I think its going to vary a lot individual to individual, and will depend on things like relaxation and "practice level"
Best to take it farther gradually

Curves often make toys easier to insert, too (vs. a straight toy)

Vaginally i am shallow, and I have a tilted cervix, so deep penetration can be painful at times. Anally i let my hubby all the way in about 7.5 inches

I think anal sex with a person would be a little different than with toy, since either can be manipulated in different ways.
The question is, is it safe?

Try looking at this: link
It's mine but I think it's reasonably well done (hope it is anyway - I do try).
Note this is NOT pornographic.

I agree. My curved toys are much easier to insert and can penetrate further.

And easier to direct against sensitive spots. Straight toys just don't do it for me anymore.

He another question: can anyone recommend toy that could be used for this purpose? I'd like to use a silicone double dildo, but there's really not much selection.

I often go past the prostate. While prostate stimulation does feel great, there are other things up there that feel good as well. Besides, the sensation of something sliding over and past the prostate feels really good and different from the sensation of something coming to rest against the prostate. I like both.
