Hello!

The wife and I have been looking into anal toys, primarily plugs, to add to our sex life. I see a lot of differences in material and shape, but what size girth would be appropriate to a beginner. She is new to anal sex, and our goal is for limited time use, and for use during intercourse.

I think that beginner sizes are around 1 inch to 1inch and 1/4.

A lot of the beginner plugs are quite small and often times pop out during sex or at orgasm. Personally this would bother me but some ppl don't mind.

My first plug was the crystal jellies anal delight link. I got rid of it bcs it isn't a great quality. I always used a condom with it.

Seriously, your fingers should be her first anal toy. They're flexible but firm, start pretty small (my forefinger is maybe .75" in diameter), and don't cost anything extra. Plus, you can build up with multiple fingers, and she can figure out if she likes anal stimulation, without risking an unused toy. Keep your fingernails trimmed, and use lots of lube.

When you get to a certain point (perhaps two fingers?) you can measure your fingers, and find a toy with that similar diameter.

That said, the best beginner size is around 3"-4" in circumference (1"-1.25" in diameter). If you get something closer to the 3", the less it will be used later, when she's experienced.

I agree that you should explore first with fingers, to see if you even like anal stimulation before investing in a toy. If you do, I'd also recommend starting with something around 3-4 inches circumference or 1 - 1 1/4 inches diameter.

I never really used a beginner anal toy. I started with fingers, and then progressed right to a penis about 5 minutes later. But from what I've read here on EF, that doesn't work for most beginners.
