Start with fingers and work you way up to toys. Go slow and use plenty of good lube. He has to learn how to relax the anus to enjoy it. Once you get to the point where he can take the toys, then start working on the harness play. It may take a few months, it will depend on how fast he learns to relax and how much playing around you do.
Please remember, anal play should not hurt. If there is any pain, stop and add more lube and start over. Stay away from desensitizing products.

I'm blessed to have a boyfriend that wanted to go in 1005 initially, but I didn't want him suffering so I worked my way up. I used fingers on him until I knew he was really comfortable.
Eventually I bought a toy and we went right into harness play. I moved slowly, because my first anal experience wasn't pleasurable and I didn't want him to feel the same way. There was a time or two where I went too fast or it slipped in too quickly and we had to stop, so be careful and stay vigilant with it.
