M and I tried a few 'sideways' sex positions facing each other last night, and we just couldn't get them to work. Have any of you all managed them? We just couldn't get close enough for anything other than rubbing.

most positions work well for us. Sideways is a lot harder then spooning. But it can be done if you are both flexible.

I think those kinds of positions are for couples who want to build intimiacy as you don't get a lot of motion going. You get some friction, lots of eye contact and kissing but not a lot of in and out thrusting movement.
I prefer other things, my partner and I are intimate but not very super romantic in bed, it's aften quicky, raw animalistic sex, rather than romantic.

It was really awkward trying at first, but after trying a few different ways- where our legs go and what angle our bodies should be at, we figured out what works for us and our body types.
When we get started in this position it can still be awkward, and if we're impatient or wanting to hurry we just do a different position.
Just experiment more, maybe wrap your legs around him, or have your bodies apart a little bit so there's a better angle.

I've had sex in a spooning position (sporking) and it feels awesome. It's kind of like reverse cowgirl while laying on your side. It allows the penis to rub against the g-spot and makes things really intense.

We can make it work but there is not a lot of penetration, only about half or so. We found a small pillow under the wife helps a bit for face to face. Spooning does not require any thing for it to work real good, one of my favorites for finishing.

It is a more difficult position unless the guy is longer than average. We have tried this a few times and seem to have most success with the spooning type position. Since I am just about average or slightly shorter, but much thicker, especially at the base, this is the only sidways position where I can get enough penetration for her to also feel good...

I am slightly bigger than average (I guess). I have never really had a problem with sideways, other than positioning the legs. I have actually had more trouble with spooning. My wife has a tilted pelvis, so if we are doing actual chest to back spooning, it is very difficult for me to stay inserted. One reason why I thought I was shorter than average for a long time is because people would talk about how easy spooning was, and I hadn't really been able to do it. LOL

I've done front sideways a few times, but you do have to maneuver & figure out how it works best for the both of you.
