Once asked my stepfather was a penis was and he hit me, kinda put me off ever talking about sort of thing again. My mom is fairly open to any questions I might have though and I wish I knew that back then. I learned most of what I know through Sex Ex classes, talking to friends at school (lots of misinformation get spreads that way though) and through the media (movies, tv and the internet).

My parents tried, I'd say. XD I was a bizarre chiiild. They also let me get some books that had some more answers in them than they could really explain. Haha. i can't imagine how awkward it is for parents to have to explain that stuff.

Sort of but it wasn't that they sat me down and told me a bunch of stuff, it was more like a number of conversations that took place over the years.

Not really, when I was very young I asked my mom what sex was and she gave me a very dry, scientific explanation that bored be, I didn't ask again. When I was in gradeschool we had sex ed, which I learned next to nothing from. When I was 12 I got really big into the internet and saw my first porn, and I learned everything from there. I knew about a ton of fetishes and a ton of sexual stuff before I ever hit high school hahah

Nope, they're very old-fashioned, talking about sex is a big no-no. When I had my first period, my mom didn't say a word about it, just sent the maid to get me pads.

My mother was forced to tell me (thank god she did, I started within 2 weeks after being told! O_O) by the state, but I found out about gay relationships and lesbian ones at 15 and then the rest of the community at 16. She spit her drink out when I asked if she be bothered if I was a lesbian X'D. That was a no go. Pansexual it is. Still spit her drink out XD.

I never got a talk.

If/When I have human kids, I'll explain it to them in a very biological way when they're old enough to understand. Any talk about emotions/feelings and relationships will wait until the teen years.

Apparently when I was really young I asked my mother about it and she explained it with the use of a book, and then I took the book and showed it to my 90-year-old great grandmother who was horrified and wanted me to take it away.

I wouldn't say what they said was "the talk". They told me sex outside of marriage was a sin and pretty much that I wasn't allowed to take part until I was married.

No. When I was in high school (junior or senior I think), my mother found condoms in my room when I wasn't home (yeah, she's quite the snoop). They weren't being used for sex...got them from a friend's sister because we were playing with them. Anyway, she sat me down and asked about them (more like demanded) then said that my father wasn't the first man she was with...that was her "talk". When it comes to anything, sexual or otherwise, she never taught me anything.

My mom gave me a book. She sat me down and said "Ok.. I know you already know all this but I think I'm supposed to have some kind of talk or whatever. Anyway here's a book instead. Look the author's name is the same as my last name! Enjoy the book." That was that. But my mom has always been really open with me and made me feel comfortable to go to her with any questions anytime. My dad still refuses to think I know what sex is. I will always be 5 years old in his eyes.

My mother left a book on my bed when I was 10 or so...a really cute book for tweens about puberty and getting your period, and it included a big section on sex. She left a note saying if I had any questions, I should ask.

I REALLY appreciated this approach! I would actually recommend it unless you have a really crazy kid. And I turned out okay, too!
