I started masturbating very early and it never occurred to me that it could be unusual. But a while back, a cousin confided in me that she found her very young step-son masturbating, and she was horrified.

I live in a place that's very... let's say... icy, when it comes to anything about sex, so I was never able to talk with friends or relatives about it. The first I knew about sex while growing up, I discovered in the human sexuality section at the library. We had no sex ed in school, my mother never gave me a single word of The Talk, and any time I attempted to broach the subject with a friend, I was met with disgust or vague shaming, despite knowing most of my friends were having sex. (Discovering what sex and masturbation were all by myself turned out to be a very good thing. I don't want to think about what my sex life would be if I hadn't been a precocious reader and my only information came from socialization.)

So, long story short, I'm just wondering when/how you guys started masturbating? And were you shamed for it? Or were you raised with a healthy attitude toward pleasure?

I discovered my clit in the shower at about 16. I grew up in a religious household where the topic was never discussed, but it felt good and I started experimenting with various methods.

This is not a judgement - it just astounds me that you could get to age 16 before discovering your clit. I asked my wife and she says that she got to know hers about the time she started menstruation (about 9)

I don't remember very well the first time I masturbated but what I do remember is that at the age of 18 I started to have my first sexual relations and since I didn't know very well how to do it before doing it with a girl I would get into cam sex and to take references for the time to practice sex in real life. I think my first time was when I was 12. Also I was super quiet about it so no one knew. I know my parents would have never agreed to it, plus I don't think my parents would need to know anything like that about me haha.

I was also raised with sexual pressure when i was young. I started masturbating at the age of 8 and it was before i could even produce cum.I would get the feeling of ejaculation but it was dry. I learned it from the books That I found in my parents room. I was never shamed for it since it was always in secret and no one found out. I became very sexual in my teenage years and found myself pleasuring at any given time. I was super young. Like, preschool age. I honestly don't even remember how I discovered it, it's kind of something I've done for as long as I can remember. Of course, back then I had no idea what it was or what it was called, I just knew that it felt really good if I rubbed a certain spot between my legs. Though even from a young age, I seemed to have the good sense to know not to do it in public or in front of other people (probably because it involved a "bathing suit area"). I wasn't really ashamed of it, I just knew it was private.

This got long as I wrote, sorry. I may have been 14 or 15 when I started. I was 13 or 14, I think. I'm actually a little odd because I didn't start masturbating for pleasure, I started because I would get distracted from my school lessons by seemingly-random erections, so I would masturbate before bed each night to get it out of my system. Wasn't until I was about 16 or 17 that I actually bothered to enjoy it, but by then my hormones were under better control and I wasn't risking random hard-ons anymore; I was also more accustomed to working through them by that point, so they weren't anywhere near as distracting.

I think that my unusual start to my love/sex life also affected my taste in women; as I find the body secondary to the mind and personality inside it when I evaluate how sexy a potential partner is, to the point that the body can be ignored if I really like the person.
