Coming out as Bi or Pan

Contributor: charletnarouh charletnarouh
A friend of mine is Pansexual, currently single but may begin dating soon, and considering coming out to her family and coworkers (most close friends already know) because the likelihood of her ending up in a non-straight relationship at some point is looking pretty high at the moment.
How important is it for a Bi or Pan person to come out while they are still single?
Would you be more (or less) comfortable dating a Bi or Pan person if they were out vs. still in the closet? And does it change if they are willing to come out once in a relationship?
Any tips or advice for dealing with the sticky issues of coming out as Bi or Pan? (issues that parents may raise, especially)

Whose business is it who they date? All it's going to do is cause trouble, with very very little to gain.

If there's something to gain, sure. If it's just going to cause confusion and possibly cost a job, why do it at all?
