Why do people insist that I'm not Bi?

Contributor: RammaJamma RammaJamma
I've had too many people tell me recently that bisexual people are just posers, that nobody is really bi, you're either straight or gay. I think that's ridiculous! Bisexuality seems to be regarded as some sort of experimental trend. Has anyone else had experiences like this? I'd love to hear opinions on these sorts of situations.

I absolutely hate when people say this. Why should you have to choose? You can like both cake and pie! You don't have to choice only one. Same with gender, you can appreciate the beauty of both the male and female bodies.

I get this from a lot of people also. However, I don't really like labels. They are often misconstrued and they force people into categories. Anyways, I often here the "gay or straight" line. I consider myself pan being that I don't care as long as I am in love with the person. I am happily engaged to a girl named, Ashley who is the world to be. She identifies more with bi but she likes only me and guys lol. It's odd and people think we are crazy. But it's whatever

Labels are lame!!! I would be considered "BI" I am married and think my hubby is super sexy hot, but I also love to make out with women. To me it doest matter whatever anyone else wants to label me...I am what I am and I like what I like!!

That's ridiculous! If anything, there's no such thing as "straight" or "gay." What you're probably getting from people is the same thing I used to (stupidly) say in college: bisexual guys are just lazy, and bisexual girls just want attention. It's not true of course, but boring people need something to laugh about.

My mother believes that and it annoys me to no end! I definitely think that bisexuality exists. Perhaps it's a bit less common for someone to be romantically attracted to both genders. But I know that exists too, I'm living proof ^_^

People who say things like that don't know what they're talking about. You're the only person who can label yourself. You're the only person who knows who you're attracted to. The biggest misconception about bisexuals is that they're attracted to EVERYBODY or that they are easy. YOU DO YOU.

I have people say that to me alot, I mean, i KNOW that i'm Bisexual, but they are always like "you must be mistaken, your either Gay, or straight, No in between" It makes me angry... Either that or i get the "Everyone your age is doing it, so you must be doing that too"....

This is why when people ask I say I'm not sure. I'm in a long term relationship with a straight man, but I've been with transgendered men and women, gay women, bisexual men and others who run the gamut of the spectrum.

People generally have a difficult time understanding that someone's sexuality doesn't fit neatly into a little box. If you're not already kink-inclined or open-minded about sex, you're likely not going to examine all aspects of sexuality, for some it's to the point of denying bisexuality or championing homophobia. Those people will be left in the dust we kick up! Educate and communicate, but don't take it personally. It's not about you, it's about a concept someone is having difficulty wrapping their brains around.

Heh. You'd think this would change in time but it doesn't, it may actually get worse. I've found that the 100%ers, either straight or gay, lose patience with bisexuals after a few relationships and usually set up a No Bi zone.
Because, as they say... a bisexual will leave you for twice as many people.

Personally, I think everyone needs to just stop identifying themselves all together. I feel the labels are where the root of the problem rest. It's all sex, weather it's with the opposite sex or the same. In ancient times, there was no gay, straight, bi, lesbian, ect. It was all "Do you like cock or cunt?" if someone switched between the two, no one cared. Those are the times we need to get back to.

I see it as not much different than political parties. I'm pro-choice and I support tough border laws and ID for welfare. What party do I sign up with? Where as someone else with my convictions would switch one of their beliefs because they feel they have to in order to have an identity or because of pressure from party members. This is why I'm also against political parties.

i just wouldn't listen to it. How can someone tell you who you are? You know who you are and how you should label yourself. If anyone doesn't like the way you label yourself, tell them to fuck off. Nobody knows you better than you, yourself.

My cousin actually told me this, he doesn't know I'm bi, I laughed at it it later with my brother. But it seems a lot of people do think this way and I say just ignore them, I've tried to have this conversation with people before and it just isn't worth the time and the people usually aren't worth the effort either.
