Of course it's possible; neither autism nor transgenderism is mutually exclusive.

I am of the belief that transgenderism is not a mental disorder, but rather more similar to a physiological error; transmen and women were simply born into bodies that aren't quite correct.

However, this is not a diagnosis or a decision to be made over the internet with the advice of strangers, and is something that should be discussed with a physician and/or mental health professional so that your autism can be diagnosed appropriately, if that's the case.

Of course! Actually, a friend (who is autistic and genderqueer) were talking about this recently; xe noticed that there seems to be a correlation between the autism spectrum and the trans* spectrum, as many autistic people also identify as genderqueer or trans*. I would definitely discuss this with a compassionate and supportive therapist or counselor who can help you figure out just what you identify as.

Very possible. Autism has little to do with you personal identities!

I've heard and read about this as well. Maybe tomorrow I'll look for a link.

Yes, completely. Autism and trans have nothing to do with eachother. Being trans isn't a "mental health disorder"

Yeah,I've noticed this too. I know huge numbers of trans people who're autistic, and even more who are dyspraxic.

There's no correlation between being transgender and autistic, so it's easily possible.

Absolutely. I've got a friend who is. He has run into some questioning from other people that his gender feelings are just an autism fixation, but that's bullshit.

It's definitely possible - my friends on the trans* spectrum and I represent a huge range of physical and mental health states, including autism, and I can't imagine why being autistic to any degree would make it impossible to be trans*. One's mental health status, autism-related or otherwise, can definitely make people question the validity of your identity even more, though, which sucks majorly.

That's interesting. I partially wonder if those on the spectrum are just more likely to be open about being trans.

Either way, if anyone finds links pertaining to this, I'd love to see them!

There is actually quite a bit of speculation out there that transness and autism are somehow linked. It's controversial, but it's what's out there.

Oh definitely. I know people who are. I don't think it's related, though some people I know who are think so.

The "belief" that transsexualism is a physiological condition is not a belief, it's a fact. There is an incorrect amount of testosterone between the 9th and 12th weeks of pregnancy causing the brain sex to develop incongruent to the physical sex.

Yeah, I feel like I know multiple people who are both.

Being trans* doesn't mean you can't tag on another thing you are

I know a girl named Elizabeth who is trans, and she's low-functioning autistic. Of course it's possible. We adore her and even though she does not understand her gender as well as you or me, we see her as female and treat her as such.
